I was reading the official Gigabyte i7-920 4GHz guide and tried thier settings. Prime95 ran for 30 sec and temps shot up to past 90c, then BSOD. Would this be because a voltage somewhere was left as auto and maybe spiked itself?

My idle temps are ~37c on 2.66GHz currently.

Does MX-2 require any burn-in time to get to it's max potential? I just switched from Arctic Silver for my last builds to MX-2, so Im not sure of the behavior.
 
If you are crashing from overheating then you probably need to reseat your heatsink. Be careful with the voltages, you might not need as much as are in a lot of guides out there.
 
Which "official" guide ? I am assuming the Gigabyte one "Core i7 920 Overclocking Tutorial" ?

But yes, heatsink or voltage, and I am going with heatsink as you did not mention which heatsink you are using.
 
Ok, when I pulled off the Zalman, I noticed that the braket was not in the notches! (if that makes sence). Re-applied MX-2 and made sure the cooler was on there this time. idle temps went from 58c to 32c :) @ 4GHz.
