I built this system from sage advise here, and it's been wonderful so far. I've not felt the need to overclock anything yet. But TAKE ON HELICOPTERS is a bear. I'd like to add a few extra FPS from what I'm getting now, which is only about 15 FPS using the settings the game defaults to, which lets the game look (almost) nice. If I'm reading this correctly, EVGA's percision reports my card using about 60% GPU utilization in this game. Is my Athlon II x4 CPU bottlenecking?

What's your CPU usage like during that game?

yep, should have conscidered that before I posted, I'll back on that later.

oh, could you point me to a program where I can check cpu usage in game. I don't think Precision does that.

Oh, I can trace back through history. The first core is the highest, and gets as high as the 2nd line down, which is 80% ?

Over-clocking the GPU part should be easy but have little knowledge of how to over-clock CPU, which from what I understand, is not that easy with my Athlon...and I don't want to add cooling components. Could I use one of Biostar's auto over-clocking schemes? They offer it in the BIOS, and in Windows through Toverclocker. Btw, my idle temp is 22c, and there seems to be lots of open space in the case. Could I possibly achieve something worthwhile?

No response? Well that tell me something:
That its not worth over-clocking just for this one game. TAKE ON HELICOPTERS is just too much for my system. Bohemia Interactive had to had lied about system requirements. It does not even require a quad core. I'm gonna go over to their forum and rant...rant...rant like a crybaby...maybe even demand my money back.

Well that's a very dumb conclusion/assumption to come to.

Ever notice the fact that this subforum has dozens of threads every day? So like in this case, we do miss a thread or two. So excuse us if we missed your thread while we were too busy helping other people and/or going on with our lives.

Really? Seriously? That's pretty a sad thing to do.

So I'm just going to wait for you to calm down first before I help you. You seem to be in a very over-reactive mood at this point and it does not help either of us for you to be in that mood. When you've calmed down, then I'll help.

Danny, sorry, I didn't mean to express any negative feeling about the forum. Its just that I thought you might be thinking that I was whipping a dead horse in trying to get this game to run decent on my system. The time it took you to respond doesn't bother me at all. I think I understand that it came out that way, though. My bad. Anyway, the system you recommended me about 6 months ago is great, and I have no complaints.

Hmm.

Generally the older software or auto overclockers aren't that great. You're better off doing it manually in the BIOs. There are numerous guides on how to OC an Athlon II or Phenom II CPU if you google for one.

Thanks, once again sorry about the tone of that post. Ill check the guides. Anyway, I'll start with the CPU, and try to get it to 3.4ghz. That should enable the GPU to work better? Should I assume an after market cooler will be needed? I've read posts where people say they routinely achieve something like 3.4ghz with stock CPU fans.

@aintz
But I'm only getting about 30-60 % GPU utilization in game.

The thing is that there are a variety of factors that determines whether or not a 3rd party HSF is needed or if the stock fan is enough. I.e case design, amount of fans, fans layout, ambient temps, thermal paste application, special chips, etc.

But basically monitor your LOAD temps after you've overclocked and report back to us.

To be fair, that doesn't necessarily mean the GPU is underutilized. The software could very well be off.
