Hi all,

I've been putting a new build together around the i7 6700k. I'm a bit confused as to what RAM is supported. DDR4 2133 is is what's listed but I'm not sure if that's:
  • The minimum RAM speed supported.
  • The only RAM speed supported.
  • The max RAM speed supported in single channel memory mode (Giving a dual channel rating of up to 4266 MHz.

I feel like this is an easy question, but its been about 7 years since I've put a build together and I don't remember how2computer.

Could I get a clarification?

It's just the minimum, and Skylake's memory controller seems to handle high memory OC far better than any other Intel CPU in recent memory... Tho the gains between 2133 & like 3000 can be slim in most instances. 2400/2666 kits are almost identically priced anyway tho.

Thanks! I haven't quite decided yet, but I thinking I'm going with a 3000 kit

The 2133 MHz rating is the maximum officially supported RAM speed. It will support any speed lower. Any speed higher is an overclock of the IMC.

For Skylake, 2133 to 3000 MHz is quite a significant difference in gaming. Just check the [H]OCP review.

Dual channel does not double memory speed.
