CPU + GPU too much?

My current WC setup is as follows:

Swiftech Storm CPU block (on Opteron 170 OCed to 2.8 @ 1.55v)
1x 120mm Rad (I forget the name/model), blowed on by a Panaflo 120mm which normally runs at 50% except under load (gaming, etc.)
Swiftech HCP355 pump
Random resovoir

Right now, CPU idles in the mid- to high-20's, average load goes into mid-30's/low-40's, full Orthos load goes up to low-50's.

If I were to add my x1950 XTX into the loop (OCed to 729/1142 [2284], and pushing 85 degrees on it's stock cooler @ 100% fan; idles at 2D clocks and 37% fan at about 55 degrees), would it be too much for my rad, and would it adversely affect my CPU cooling? Should I look at a 2x 120 rad?

Edit: The rad is a BIP.
 
the most I've seen from a BIP was a X2 3800 and a 7600GT.

I'd be looking at an MCR-220-QP or another 120.2
 
The Thermochill PA160 is the only single radiator that could handle that GPU + CPU combo.
 
Agree with Arcygenical, if space is an issue the only 1x120 rad that would handle it is the PA160, but be advised it is larger than your standard 120mm rad. They aren't that cheap in comparison to the BIP's and Swiftech's but the performance is great, especially when paired with lower CFM fans. Otherwise if space isnt an issue I would definitely go for a 2x120rad.
 
Why dont you buy the gpu block and slap it in and see ?

Your existing rad may be undersized and the temps will not be what you want, so you swap it later, and if it does manage to handle the new load, any decent rad will dump a crap load of heat, you might have to turn up the fan, but perhaps it will be good enough.

Anywho, why not see whats going on before you spend money ?

And it would be interesting to see what happened, you old rad is not going to explode or anything. well I dont think it will anyway.

Or if you buy the new rad, put in the gpu block and benchmark the temps, then put in the new one and benchmark and we will be enlightened and you can feel all good about how much better (I Hope) the new rad works. I for one would like to see what difference the rad really makes. (mark you fan speed control setting)

I wanted to do that, but the problem is my case right now can't take a 2.120 (it's a stupid Coolermaster Centurion 5), so I need to buy a new case too...

With regards to the 2.120 rad, what does everyone think of this? It's perfectly within my budget and it's the same model I have now only dual. Would it be sufficient?

It can if you don't mind losing all but 2 of your 5.35" bays ;)

(A mod I'm working on for someone... They wanted all white and blue UV reactive things. It was hard finding a white paint that didn't fluoresce under UV lol.


Stay away from that RAD unless you're using fans with CFM ratings of 55 or higher. It performs about 20-30% worse than the double BIP with yate loons.

NCIX has a Swiftech MCR220 on "backorder" but a little bird tells me they should have some in stock in 3-4 days (IE, order it now).

The MCR220 is about 10% better than the BIP with yates (so about 40% better than the one you linked too with yates) or about 10% worse than the one you linked to, if you were using really fast fans.

Edit: And it seems these things are no longer on NCIX... well, 2 of these it is!

However, for the extra $8, I'll get the MCR220. Might as well. It's $8 on a $420 order... :rolleyes:

The MCR will let you get similar cooling as the BIX, but at a 3db noise reduction, at least.

err: lemme be more clear... your noise will be halved.
 
Haha, alright, I'm getting a fan controller with everything too, so I doubt they'll be running at 100% all the time anyways. Quiet is good.
 
EDIT: Wait a second, doing some second measuring, it looks like a 2.120 will fit in in/on my case and won't cover my sound card as I feared. God this is confusing!
