So..speedfan is showing my 6600 idling at cpu temp of 50c ..core 0 is 45c and core 1 is 44c..Do i watch the core temps more than the cpu or what?..Just curious.. I've been having some major temp problems..i just re-did my thermal grease..but my tdx DD block is making it difficult. And not to mention its hot as shit in my room right now..I hope thats the only problem.. I'm afraid to run orthos though because i'm afraid it'll hit 80c+!! :(

The core temps are the internal core temps from a Digital Temp Sensor (DTS) inside the chip and need watching closely. Speedfan is pretty accurate at doing that.

if you 6600 is a dual core the chip will shut itself off at 85C internal temp. 75C max is a nice safe max temp limit, personally I have my alarm set at 65C.

if your 6600 is a quad the chip will shut itself off at 100c internal temp. I do not have any experience with quad chips so I do not wish to recommend anything.

The cpu temp is probally being read from an old style thermister in the "well" of the socket under the cpu and is mosty (imo) useless.

Do you believe 50c is a hot temp to be running then?..its probably 70-75 degrees in my room..My system is pushing through 1/2" past a 8800 then to my C2d and to a 240 rad..after 30 seconds of orthos speedfan shows like 80c on my core!!! I dont get what my problem is..gotta wait till night falls and hopefully temps will drop and i'll see if i can run orthos for atleast ONE minute >.<

I have to agree with Bill.

50C idle is pretty good. My quad core 6700 is overclocked to 3.2 and the idle temps are around 55-57C max load just under 70c

From what I've been told here are those are pretty good temps

don't quad cores push alot more heat though? mine is only a c2d

I just played cs:s and it was at like 75.5c the whole time

edit: i'm almost thinking of purchasing a alternative cooling method..something besides my DDtdx block..maybe a air cooling method or something to see if i can get anything different

Gee  I think your E6600 runs kinda hot. My on TDX idled at 32-34 and full load 45-47, room temp is around 70* F. And my D5 pump was set on 2.

I'm redoing my tubing hoping to get better temps :D

i've got two 12vddc's mounted together..i dont get the problem!!!! I'm gonna try and regrease it.. ithink that may be my problem. The whole "add a pea size to the middle" and let it spread out wasn't working on the tdx..Is that how you did it, vlad?

The way i do it, i put one bigger grain in the middle and four small ones on the corners, then i just take a toothpick and just smush the thermal paste all over the chip, when the thing is applied to all area I add one more grain of thermal paste to the middle for the finish. Last week when i removed the TDX for some cleaning and stuf my thermal paste was perfectly thin and applied to the whole area, so my method works. I dono about "one small grain of thermal paste" but i like it my way, works every time on my all blocks.

Also a good example, if you take an old P4 chip and remove the metal part (IHS) from the chip (actually did that few days ago, made that metal part in to a key chain :p ) you will see that there is more than "one small grain of thermal paste" Intel guys put shit load of thermal paste under that thing. So in my opinion the "one small grain of thermal paste" is a gimmick.

Edit: make sure your block is sitting flat on the chip, check it diagonally. Also make sure you tightened those TDX nuts pretty damn good. Be fore I had 1/2" tubing and it was puling the block away from the chip... I had to screw those things kinda better.

Hope it helps.

i put a drop down and scraped it back and forth with a stiff piece of cardboard..but now that i think of it it was pretty thin. I did it on both the block and the cpu. i took off the springs from the block so i could tighten it more..and when i tightened them i tried to do it equally so it could sit evenly. Is your radiator cold to the touch?

No no! use the springs, PUT them back, but tighten the thing to the point where springs are almost but not "closed".

TDX to the touch is cold, radiator to the touch almost impossible to tell that it is warm, but it is warm. I know for sure it is not hot hot :D

I have a question, you have your GTX WCed and C2D, correct? You also have 2 DDCs pumps, DO you have separate loops for your GTX and C2D or the same loop? Also what rad(s) you have? It would not be a surprise if you would have one 120 rad  that would be your answer why your C2D stays so hot, GTX pumps out a lot of heat btw.

I've got a 240 rad and both pumps are in the one loop. I suppose maybe i shuold try and pick up a d5 or another ddc and put it in a seperate loop on my c2d..But could I get away with a single 120 for my c2d? Last year is when i had built the system and someone had recommended having two pumps in parrallel to have a better water flow and also incase of a failure..I'd rather buy another pump if i split to two loops so I can protect that blasted 750$ card -.-

My goal is to run this at 4.0ghz if i ever had sufficient cooling.

Do a 2nd loop. Or get yourself a 360 rad. Or add one more rad to your loop not sure how your comp looks like so i cant tell

What do you think would be more efficient..another 240 rad or a seperate loop with a 240 rad and a d5? I'm thinkin a seperate loop...it'll be easier for me to pull off without having to do a whole bunch of re-working.

The green represents my current 240 which is blowing forward..the pink is where I have a 120 fan blowing forward to the 240..and the blue is where my pumps are. I'm thinking of putting a d5 in the bay under the power supply..and I guess i'd have to size it up to see if i could have a 240 on the back hanging a little lower than the case (just barely off the ground right by the pink)..but even then i don't know which way i should have the airflow going. Would a single 120 handle my c2d oc'd along with my nb block?..Cause i've had one of those fit just fine on the back by my 120 fan...Yarr decisions.....Or what about a dual 80? Oh, and if i had the d5 in the hard drive bay..would it benefit to have a 120 fan blowing down from under the power supply?

I spent so much time to hopefully have this case look nice and now its all falling apart!! I painted the whole inside of the chassis black and its like a dust machine now..its almost to the point where i think i should just buy a new case but that would be such a waste of money -.-

Your airflow is totally in the wrong direction  you putting hot computer air trough your rad which instead you should be putting cold room air trough your rad. Turn the fans around it will change your temps DRASTICALLY! Also mount 2nd rad on the rad box,it should work. And no there is no way in hell one 120 will cool your C2D and chipset.

I've got my rad fans mounted on -> side of it in the picture..i'm thinknig now it just isn't the greateest placement for the rad itself..I drilled holes for more airflow but the front of the case is still quite restricting..Should I put the fans on the <-- side of the radiator?..Or should i just think of moving it all together. Blaaaaah i'm a screw up!

I use my key to swing open the front face of the case for more airflow..maybe i shuold hack out the front face of the case and cover it with mesh to clean it up for allow for more airflow..Or just smack two 120's cut into the face of it..Yar.

Gotta learn someway i suppose.

Yeah i'll take some later tonight.

Rather than spend the money on a new case I think i'm gonna try nad learn from my mistakes and say eff it and put a 360 rad on top.. (fans on top of the rad blowing down into the case, right?) and keep the 240 where it is but switch the airflow.

Hmmm.... when you put 360 rad on top, equation changes and there fore you will have five fans that blow inside and only one fan out. Know what I mean? Crap, I'm not sure about this one :(

I know for sure if you would put radiator on top and just didnt cut trough the case top just leave the radiator sorta in the air on long screws it wouldn't realy matter which way you put those 3 fans, (then again it would look ugly as hell) but if you cut trough and put it with the case air circulation it is different.

Uhhh :( sorry but i'm not sure how to go with fans if you put a 360 on top, you might ask some gurus in the Water Cooling section, they usually hang out over there.
