Hi all

I have two CPU's lying spare here.

Intel E6600 Core 2 Duo
Intel E7400 Core 2 Duo

Any preference of any particular one for running an ESX 4 Server? The 6600 has 4Mb cache, the 7400 has 3Mb cache. Both are running at 2.8GHz.

I would have thought the 7400 would be an obvious choice, but the cache difference is confusing me!

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks

The E7400 was based on the Wolfdale core which was 10% faster clock for clock than the Conroe core of the E6600.

The larger L2 cache does not make up for that 10% clock for clock performance increase.

I would use the E6600 just because of the hardware Virtualization support. The E7400 is the better processor but if you want to run 64bit vms.
