Couple question

Hi,

I'm mostly looking for general advise on 2 (maybe 3) uppgrades.
I'm currently using a 9600GT and it's obvious it won't be able to run BF3 at any decent setting so I need to uppgrade.

Thing is, I don't want to spend too much money.
Other thing is, my PSU blows.
And last thing is, my Case is ugly, I hate it (no kidding).

As far as the case go, I might go for the CM690II Advanced , I can get it for 80$CAN which is pretty good I beleive (can you put a ssd in there? I can't in my case it's "floating" around which is kinda messed up).

What I'm unsure of is what PSU and GFX card to get.
I'm still running on 1650x1080 mainly because my monitor is still going strong but it's over 7 years old so I know that it'll die on my at some point.

That being said I don't want to buy a GFX card with a "in case your monitor dies" mindset, but I'd like the option of adding a 2nd card, if the need arise so the PSU needs to be able to handle it.

Am I making any sense? Is buying a lower range GPU that can run a game perfectly fine at 1680x1050 and adding another one down the road if my monitor dies a good idea or I'm better off buying something bigger right away? (Ie: Get a 6870 right now and a 2nd one in the future or a 6950 right now)

The CM 690 II Advanced has 2.5" adapters for it's 3.5" bays. So the SSD can be mounted.

For a resolution of 1680x1050*, I'd recommend the 1GB version of the 6950, the Ti version of the GTX 560 or the 6870. Higher price means better performance, so get what you can afford.

Go for the Corsair 750 V2 PSU, it will handle SLi/CF just fine. Though at that resolution, CF/SLi isn't really necessary.

By the way, what CPU do you have anyway?

I have a Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition.
While Sandy Bridge is tempting my CPU isn't old enough to do the change

Bumping my old thread since the new whoshallnotbenamed website has a new sale up.

I'm buying my GFX card at the moment since the case and psu have been settled.

The options from the priciest to the cheapest, there was no 6950 under 230$ after MIR so I didn't include them... bad idea?

Anyway, on to the list... is the 560Ti worth it over a 6870 when there's a 40$ difference? Or what about a 6870 vs a 6850 when there's also a 40$ difference (with the cheapest 6850, that is).

At your resolution, the GTX 560 TI as well as the HD 6950 1GB and 2GB variants would be a tad overkill. But if you have the extra $40 to spend, go for the Gigabyte GTX 560 TI or HD 6950 1GB. Otherwise, go with the XFX HD 6870.

My goal here is to be able to crank every detail as high as possible, will the 6870 be able to do that ?

Hmm I've read a bit on the Gigabyte 560 and alot of people are complaining that they need to underclock the card to make it work...

Lots of RMA it seems.

So yeah, I'm a chicken.
I've looked a bit more and thought that maybe paying more could reduce the chances of getting into trouble.

So if I add these 2 cards :

Powercolor Radeon HD 6950 800MHZ 2GB @ 230$AR
and
XFX Radeon HD 6950 800MHZ 2GB @240$AR

I know it's completly overkill, but they're rated really well from what I can tell.
