Could this the THE "Ultra"???

Yes it is

You don't know that. It could simply be a dual slot cooling solution for a 7800GTX. There is no way to know.

Until these things are announced all we have is idle speculation.

Agreed, but it does make sense that it would be an ultra, otherwise they wouldnt make such an extreme breed of air cooling.

Of course there is no way to know. But there's such a thing as common sense. We have single-slot GTX's running at 460Mhz at standard voltages. Give me one good reason why anybody would build such a beast of a cooler just for a GTX?

Not necessarily. Plenty of "value added" video cards come out with pretty intense cooling. That cooler isn't that much different than this 6800GT's cooler:

Just a bit better. Could just be a "2nd generation" GTX. Who knows.

Most of the video card forum is only "idle speculation".

Let me speculate all over this too:

1. Could be a dual chip (SLI on one board) version, like they've made in the past... (2 full videocards on one board) - though interesting b/c there's still an SLI connector?

2. Value added HSF, like the eVGA green ACS3, or Winfast's big ass HSF

3. Dual slot cooled 7800 Ultra!! - meh thinks very likely.

4. Its the uber 133t G90 with flux capacitor cooling.

Well looking at the markings on the cooler it definitely looks a nVidia design. The add in board makers usually like to put their name somewhere on their custom designs. Anyways that cooler looks badass, I like it, heatpipes and everything. No more need for arctic coolers. They just better not think about setting a new high price record of $699 or higher.

Good point about the nvidia markings. So it's definitely not an OEM design. And it's definitely not a dual GPU card. So methinks its gotta be the Ultra.

Yes. This does not look like a value-add cooler, but more like an nvidia reference design.
Best guess is that this is the 7800Ultra.

I actually like the looks of that cooler. I've seen soooo many ugly ones. I'm not going to guess what it's attached to, but it's pretty "cool" looking.

In order to run that card in SLI you have to have 2 X1 slots between your X16 slots. I have Arctic coolers on my 6800 GTs and they take up too much room to put side by side on something like the Abit boards where there is only one slot in between. This one may actually "fit" but how much airflow will it have being right next to another one with a standard fan?

That has to be one of the coolest heatsinks I've ever seen. And they usually don't pull of that kind of crap with Quadro cards. Somehow I think it is the Ultra we've been waiting for. Damn Nvidia, damn you all, they explicitly said on their website there was no Ultra so I took the plunge and got the GTX last week. You lying snot nosed bastards! At least eVGA's step-up program comes into play :p. Anyone have an ETA?

Nvidia's quadro cards traditionally have the "quadro" emblem right on them...and they've never had a fancy cooler like that...with the little nvidia markings and such...also the mainstream versions almost always come before the quadro version, so seeing a dual slot quadro before a dual slot geforce is kinda strange...

I'm leaning towards 7800 Ultra. With a cooler like that, 500Mhz should be no problem...

...there are pictures of the thing...what's so unbelievable?

It's a picture of a card, that has the exact dimensions and physical layout of the existing 7800GTX. With a fatass cooler on it. Does that make it an Ultra? No. When nVidia announces an Ultra, then there will be one. Until then everything else is speculation.

nVidia's press statement about the GTX was clear. GTX replaces the Ultra branding.

Im going to say its the Ultra. The Quadro shouldnt need a cooler any bigger than the GTX.

I hope that this is the Ultra, and I hope it is announced with immeadiatly availiability the day after the R520 is announced.

I'd say it's more likely a 7800 'Ultra' than a Quadro - the pimped-out reference cooler doesn't look like it belongs on a workstation card. It certainly looks like something for the uberthusiast market though.

I heard some thing(Rumor) that, this card is going to be the new line of Quadro cards based off the 7800 core(7000 - 7700?). Just like the Quadro 4000 - 4400's are based of the 6800 core, and the 3000 - 3300's are based off the FX core(5900 - 5950)But it could every well be that 32pipe 512MB vertion of the 7800 as well who knows... with that monsterus fan/heatsink.

It's the 7800 series quadro, which would make more sense to have 512mb of memory, and plus the little connector near the top left is only present on quadro cards and controls a feature which makes no sense to put in a regular card

What would be the point of using a vastly superior HSF to cool the core when only the frame buffer's size is being increased? I might believe this if there were ramsinks on the card, but using a larger heatsink to cool the core just doesn't make sense if this card is just a 512MB GTX.

It could easily be one company's 7800GTX with a larger cooler targetted at the overclocking market. Who knows? What we do know about it is only that it is some kind of card from the 7800 family. That's all we can really discern. Anything else is nothing more than speculation.

People sure love to hang onto unbelieveable rumors....

Yea,we are getting just about as bad as the ATI bunch................

I noticed that connector. But it doesn't really explain the cooler which is way too flashy for a quadro board, and way too nvidia for an AIB partners board. I dunno...could go either way...but the cooler definitely looks like an ultra version of the 7800...

Whatever the case...a 7800GTX on that cooler should hit 500Mhz no problem...

nvidia said the gtx is taking over the ultra branding, but they never said they wouldn't make a level above the "gtx/ultra." maybe they'll call it the 7800 SUPER ULTRA.
