I heard in 2011 they're coming out with 8-core (aka Octacore) CPU's... and they plan to dedicate one to software-based physics! OMG, could this kill PPU sales being so close to the present, especially being a far more subpar solution that can't handle the same things that a dedicated PPU can?

a) 2011 is still very far away; a lot can change between now and then. Just look at how many new ideas have appeared and disappeared in five years or less- you don't even have to go too far back, as with RAMBUS and RDRAM.

b) There was a similar thread for QUAD-core. I suggest you revisit that one, as it has many relevant points.
 
so first we had "Could Dual Core kill the PPU"

Then we had "Could Quad Core kill the PPU"

and now "Could Octa Core kill the PPU"


how about we just jump right to "Could Giga Core kill the PPU" and save ourselves hundreds of threads...

I hear by the year 3562, super laser quasi-nova cores will be introduced. Will this kill PPU sales?
