Cosair H50 thermal paste

I'm going to purchase the corsair H50 but I was curious should I remove the thermal paste with 91% alchol and reapply my own mx-2 on it?

What's the difference from h50 and h50-1?

Yes, the H50 stock paste is better than MX2. Shin-Etsu is some of the top end stuff. I switched to SE w/ my previous i7 build and it lowered my temps by an average of 4c over AS5

Shin-Etsu is pre-applied on the H50,no need to buy some unless you plan on remounting multiple times.

off the top of my head, an included AMD bracket the original did not include one. There could be something else but as far as I can remember thats the only difference worth mentioning.

I put AS5 on mine. Thermal pads just seem kind of lame to me, especially considering you have to twist it in place to lock it to the retention mechanism.

It's not a thermal pad, it's a pre-applied layer of high quality thermal paste. Good job wasting it

Yes, and thermal paste that is better than AS5 to boot. Give a +1 to Corsair. Best pre-applied thermal paste ever I believe on a heatsink/block.

h50 is the oem version that only has the intel mounting hardware. the h50-1 is the retail package which is supposed to have all the amd stuff in it as well.

If you read the posts on newegg this is exactly what people say not to do. Because many of them did what you did and realized they screwed up. On top of that AS5 is a bit over hyped at this point in the game. I would say over priced as well.

Both the CWCH50 and CWCH50-1 are retail kits, but the -1 includes Intel 1156 and AMD compatibility.

I removed the stock Shin Etsu because Corsair just put way too much on there.

Used the stock Shin Etsu on my h50. i5 750 @ 4ghz with it no probs.

It is quality stuff (Shin Etsu), but the only problem is they used a large amount of it. I'd buy a tube of Shin Etsu G751 and apply it properly.

Whichever one you want to spend less on, the X23 is better though.
