Today I just received my 2 gigabyte 6870's and installed them with a smile from ear to ear. Upon turning on my system I found that the second card is running at 1ghz with an activity of 99% and temp of about 56 degrees Celsius.

I might have an explanation seeing as I had a Radeon 4890 with the same clocks that the second card was reporting, but upon correcting the frequency the activity and temperature are still exactly the same. I may not of completely uninstalled the drivers

I know that some other people have been reporting the same thing even with other card brands, does anyone know if this might be a reference/card , driver/amd bug?

I am loading up Just Cause 2 to test to see if it impacts playability at all but I just wanted to know if anyone else here has been experienced the same issue.

Thanks for reading, now shush im trying to play ;)

I read something like this before, it was actually a registry issue. I believe a clean driver install is required. If you look in the CCC what card is it telling you is there. It may still report your old one. Try a uninstall reboot in safe mode run driver sweeper and then reboot, reinstall your drivers and you should be ok.

If you are doing nothing, the drivers completely shut down the second card, and (relatively) bogus readings will ensue (same thing happenes to my Crossfire'd HD5870s).

thanks for the quick replies, I saw them yesterday but was unable to reply.

After doing what you said both cards now have identical reading, thanks for your help.
