ok my main rig AXP-M @2.5ghz crunches BP, plain gromacs just fine not a problem ever but since this lack of 600 pointers happened i have been getting the 241 point tinkers.

the tinkers will error out any where from 3 frames to 275 frames into the unit and then try to start ALL over losing hours of work and after 4 errors is dumps the unit and gets a new gromacs and then folds just fine. when it errors out i get the classic windows XP error that wants to send a stupid report that the program errored.

here is a exert from my log file:

[15:18:27] + Working ...

it even went as far as downloading a new core itself which i tried also at one point. It was my understanding that tinkers used less instructions on the cpu there for where less intense units to fold. anyone have any ideas? or is there anyway i can make it totally ignore tinkers and only recieve gromacs? i use the console on this rig.

Thanks in advance,
Buck

hmmm... have you run memtest? clean heatsink?

I'm not sure why it would be okay with the 600 pointers, and not with the tinkers.... maybe someone else could answer that one...

Are you doing anything else while this is happening? (gaming, burning a CD,etc, etc, etc?)

Keep on Folding!!

If it's at 2500gHz, you'd better slow it down.

Is your system prime stable? Run it instead of folding for 24 hours, and see whether it survives.

My bad ill edit that.
Nothing else is happening when it errors out i came back to it this mornign with the error.
yes its prime stable for 24 hours. Memtested fine also.

i looked back through my EMIII and found that it had done some of the units in question back in november and they completed just fine. nothing has changed in the system.

Maybe its time for a format

thanks
Buck

Man, hate to say it, but part of your processor doesn't like that speed. Kind of funny, because I am usually more unstable with 600 pointers. Reduce the overclock by 50-100 Hz and see if it goes away.

FAH is the toughest overclock test I know of.

It could be that something in your system is starting to flake. Has your average CPU temp gone up any? Maybe it's time to clean the dust out of your box.

i can lower the oc, but i also find it weird that it can handle the BP and not a tinker.
As far as temps it runs at 41C full load and i just cleaned it out last week which it wasnt even that dusty but i seem to have a habit of cleaning it once a month.

strange none the less. thanks for the input.

Only other thing I can think of is that your memory got a static shock at somepoint in its life and is finally starting to show it. That can take years to manifest.

Are you running behind an UPS?

I found this on Stanford's Folding Forum....

ERROR 0xC0000005 means there was a memory access violation. This is a standard Windows error code for any program trying to access memory it does not control. This can be a rare hardware error and is not cause for concern. Old versions of clients/cores can also cause this problem.

May want to try that memtest again?

yup APC Back-UPS BX-1500.

it could be ram. will have to swap that gig out with another box and test it.

thanks for the link OSUguy98 ill run memtest again when i get home later see if anything turns up on that. if memory(my memory) serves me right im running it at 210FSB X 12 multiplier so it should be well within the rams limits but it might have gotten a shock or something.

Just pull out 1 stick and see if that works first. That solved the problem with one of my systems. I had 2x512 running with a decent overclock and was getting errors. Pulling out 1 stick totally removed the problem and that other stick is folding in another machine with no problems either. I wonder if it is a Northbridge memory controller issue with dual channel memory.

intresting but as it would seem to me you should send me 2 boxen since its just a matter of 116 days till you flash by me ;)

Hito i will do that and test, but as it is also my game rig i thinks UT2k4 would not likely me to much :( but i can try that and memtest and might just have to pick up some new ram( damn i hate it when i have a good excuse to buy new hardware) :D

I should have looked the other day, but I think it might have been the same core my
sempron was choking on.. ended up resetting f@h and deleting all the old stuff and then
it worked fine..

Memtest is turning out fine so not a memory issue (3 passes in the books) so ill try prime again. ran that about a month ago for 24 hrs when i was shooting for a higher OC and ended up pulling her back down to 2500 and prime stable for 24 hr so will see.

May need a new cpu. well maybe i just think i need a new one so i can justifiy getting one ;)

I would suggest deleting the fah502-console.exe and the cores. Download the console client again and copy it into the directory and try that. The files could have gotten corrupted somehow. I don't know if this has every helped anyone before, but it's a quick and easy thing to try.

3 loops of memtest is not really all that much. I would suggest starting memtest in the morning and coming back to it after dinner. Or evening to morning. Sometimes it won't error until a later run maybe run 5 or even 10+. Maybe others can chime in on the topic of how many runs you should do. I have overclocked a few systems and I always leave it running over most of a day, since I have had systems pass five runs and error on the sixth etc.

I just had a bad shut down on my rig dual xeon rig, so my production is really going to be hurting. It corrupted all the start up files. Darn windows. In the effort to fix it the cmos was cleared and now my raid 1 setup is not recognized as raid. Darn it again. This isn't what I wanted to do this weekend. Wow, what a rant. Sorry to polute your thread.

Thanks for the rant. Convinced me to start another FULL backup of all my systems in time for April Fool's day.
Also - if you've got an unstable system here's a simple batch file to run that basically makes up to 48 backups of your folding directory. And here's the discussion of it.
