Core temp difference significant?

What's an acceptable core temp difference (as measured by Core Temp) for a non-overclocked E3200 that I using on a build for a family friend? I currently have a stable 6 deg C difference (currently 41 vs 35 deg C). I'm tempted to reinstall the stock Intel heatsink just because of this difference, but I'd have to remove take the mobo out of the case to do so (hence my question to you all).

Would reinstalling the heatsink likely make much of a difference here? I've gotten pretty good at installing these stock heatsinks and always double check to make sure all pins are secured.

If the two cores are getting different temperatures either the heatsink is not mounted correctly or the base is not flat on both axis. BTW is that 41/35 load? Load temperature is all you have to worry about.

Nah, just idle temps but the delta doesn't hold up when I prime. Core 1 stays at 41 while Core 2 goes up to 41-42. Is this a case of defective core temp sensor? I'd rather not have to yank this SOB heatsink out cuz I don't have a motherboard tray. This computer is going to be used by a couple of young kids whom I doubt will be pushing this pc very much. It's just my anal-self can't let this go:eek:

There are a number of different reasons why the two cores might report different temperatures, but without wasting my time listing them all, all you need to know is that it really doesn't make a difference whatsoever.

Thanks for the response. :D Funny thing is that the temps evened out when I primed (maxed at 42-44C for both cores). Oh well, didn't think it would worth my while to reinstall the heatsink.

You likely have one sensor that gets stuck. This is very common with Intel's 45nm Core 2 sensors whenever the temperature drops below 50C. At any temperature below this, a sensor can get stuck and just keep reporting the same temperature even as the CPU gets cooler. The RealTemp CPU Cool Down Test is a good tool to show you when a sensor is getting stuck. At each step of the test there should be some movement. It makes it fairly obvious when a sensor keeps reporting the same thing even as the CPU load decreases. Intel has never recommended using these sensors to report accurate core temperatures. They were designed to control thermal throttling and thermal shutdown and for those purposes, 99.99999% of these sensors work just fine.
