core 78 missing or corrupt, can't redownload

is anyone else having this problem? it has been doing this all week. my best machine isn't folding!

i'll post some logfile if someone wants to see it.

but uninstall or delete everything and then reinstall

Delete the cores and the executable and redownload the executable from Stanford and then reconfigure it. That will likely take care of your problem. The console may have gotten corrupted and not just the cores.

I had this problem on my machine, delete the console and cores and redownload. That's all it took.

Did you download a new client, like a fresh copy of F@H? It may clear that up. Delete all again, and install with new copy of F@H.

downloading a brand new client from Stanford should fix the problem........ hmmm.... Anyone been on the official folding forum to see if there are any similar problems out there?

i had similar problem for a long time, and here is what i noticed. (my observations combined with some things noted on this form)

i started out using the google dcc client, with my user in the 446 (google) group.

i wasnt too happy with their client, and it didnt run on linux. so i used a mix of google and stanford.

i spend about a month occasionally trying to figure out why i didnt get new wu's, specifically on my windows boxes.

someone here said to delete queue.dat... i did that eventually, and things started working again. HOWEVER!!! after the first unit completed, and we went back to the mother ship, my queue.dat file got polluted with COMPUTE.GOOGLE.COM/NEXT_.... something... lower case, last part truncated... anyway, the stanford stuff APPEARS to try to be smart, based upon my group number and puts garbage in my queue.dat file. i believe this is what says where to attempt to get the next wu/core from. and i believe this is the problem.

i hope someone from stanford will look at this to resolve the issue. i dont want to use google's client as i like the command line freedom, but i dont want to change groups either as this breaks up the stats...

what i have to do to get a new wu after the corruption occurs is:

delete queue.dat
change my group number to something other than 446 (i use 1)
start the client again...
when it gets the next core, i go back and change my group back to 446. then restart again.

i am ok for at least 1 wu. (i speculate that i am good until i need a different core, but i am still experimenting, so i may be mistaken)

i also believe this doesnt happen on linux as i dont think google supports linux at this time.

That's what I saw as well. Seems odd that it's seemingly only affecting the Google folders though. I can't imagine what would cause someone using the regular client, issues like this.

Are you running a firewall or Norton products and possibly changed something with them lately? If so, you may want to look into seeing what changed with them. I think I remember something about the Norton Firewall causing problems with folding. I know it wasn't fun trying to get the client to connect with Stanford through it, but I think there may have been something with the firewall corrupting downloads from Stanford or something.

Even if I'm completely wrong, maybe this will jog someone else's memory for a solution.

Here we go... that topic more accurately reflects the issue you're having. Have you tried to set the client up on a different PC and let it download the core? You could then transfer it between the boxen.
