Games are requiring alot of frequency now like splinter cell double agent, requires 3.7GHz.
How much frequency is the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz in terms of pentium 4?

It'll run, there is no way to really compare the two. You can overclock the 6300 to around 2.8ish and up. The Core 2 Duos rape Pentium 4s in every way anyways, at a much lower frequency.

The P4... IMO is about 2.5x slower clock for clock...

Therefore, a conroe at 2.0ghz would = P4 at 5.0ghz and so on...

Therefore, the game would need about 1.5ghz to run really well.

Should be fine.

not to mention, these E6300's clock to 2.5-3.0 with their eyes closed!

And adequate cooling ;)

Espically since a lot of benchmarks put the e6300 only below the other Conroes and sometimes below the FX-62. And if you give it a nice overclock, it'll outperform the FX-62 in a couple more benchmarks. I would say it is fully capable of running any game out there, of course if your other hardware can as well.

Even with the stock cooler, you should have no problem running a E6300 in the 2.8Ghz range. 7x400 DDR2 800 memory at 1:1 rock solid in the right board.

It actually says 3.5 for recommended on the site, but the E6300 is more than adequate to run the game.

if it worth throwing out the extra money for the Intel Core Retail 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz? how much better is it then the 6300?

not a lot, but you get a higher multiplier to play with when overclocking.

This is the real value of the 6400. 400x8 = 3.2Ghz. 400x7 = 2.8Ghz. Your board has to be capable of some big FSB OC's to get a 6300 as high as it can go (depending on chip of course), but you have a little more wiggle room with an extra multiplier.

You don't need that much power to run this game...i got a Opty 165 @ 2.7 and a x1800xt and at 1280x1024 my settings are maxed out and it's as smooth as butter... I'm not saying go get an AMD... i'd take one of those C2D in a heartbeat. All i'm saying is that it doesn't take crazy overclocks and a 8800gtx to play this game.
