Core 2 Duo E6600 seems slower

I recently put together my gaming rig and I'm pretty disappointed with my processor. I upgraded from a Pentium 4 3ghz processor to a Core 2 Duo E6600. For some reasons it just doesn't seem as fast as the pentium. I'm wondering if there's a problem where maybe it's only running one of the core's since they run at 2.4ghz. When I set up FEAR and it ran the "automatic system test" it only came up with "high" for the CPU setting and when I ran it with my pentium 4 it came up as "maximum". I'm not sure if maybe there's a driver or something I need to download. Any thoughts?
 
In Device Manger under CPU do you see 2 processors ?

If so, they are working.

CTRL ALT DEL should bring up task manager and you can set it up so it shows the workload of each processor (both cpus show in one window) as well.

You provide no details on what we are working with here.

Did you build the rig as a P4 and then just swap the processor or did you build the C2D as a new machine ? You may need to install the latest Intel .inf file .
 
yeah the device manager came up with 2 processor. Maybe there's a problem with the specific games only running 1 processor or something.

I'm very new to performance computers and just finished putting together a rig for gaming.

SLI P6N-SLI-FI motherboard
8800 GTS 320mb
2 gigs of ram
Core 2 Duo E6600
 
Something must be not right. When I upgraded from P4 3.0 to C2D I noticed a huge performance increase. Did you install intel chipset drivers? If not, install it.
 
Dumb question since no one asked, is this a fresh install of Windows, or did you just upgrade the hardware and use the same install? If you used the install from the p4, back your stuff up and do a reformat............. a e6600 should kick the crap out of a 3GHz p4...........

Whoaa. This is a Nforce chipset motherboard, not an Intel chipset so the chipset drivers to install is nforce drivers for chipset 650i SLI

Also make sure your fsb is running at 1066mhz (4x266mhz)
