So I was reading up on the Corsair Accelerator review and I am wondering. My clientele are still with Windows XP and using P4 and some I have seen have LGA775's.

So I am wondering if these can be used on their systems since the test here was done on a newer parted system. I know the P4 clients I know are going to get pulled down due to the SATA I ports they have, but the 775 clients......I know one client has an Intel G41 which has SATA II, but they are running XP.

Anyone have an idea if these can run XP without the issues? By issues I mean you would not want to load XP on an SSD, but these accelerators are not having the O/S loaded on them, just cache. So I am wondering.

Just as Kyle said in the review, I keep telling my clients to upgrade, but they just love their slow antiquated machines and it goes beyond me why. Maybe if these can work with XP, then maybe this can push them a bit. At least one step towards SSD''s for them.

What does everyone say?
 
If you buy an SSD, why not use it as the OS drive ? XP was still the most used OS when SSDs first appeared, and the benefit of an SSD in XP is as much if not more than in 7.
 
Reading what I posted, I did not mention one factor, these clients have 500GB to 1TB single drive systems. For the lower 500GB folks, their systems are about half full while the 1TB guys are around 750GB of data and programs installed. So buying an SSD to replace the 500GB or 1TB drive with what amount of data and programs installed, this is going to create a sticker shock when I tell them to buy an SSD at or around that size.

In other words, a 512GB costs between $450-$600. Rough looking of course, but that number there is going to shock them when they know their 500GB WD is less than $100. And an SSD to have enough space for 750GB of data, God knows how much those SSD's cost. A couple of clients have like old GPS software, old Accounting software, lots and lots of games, and on and on.

So my strategy for them is to use something like these Accelerators to just help in the speed department. Since what I think I am deciphering; these SSD's basically are just handling data back and forth so they can keep their huge amount of data on the mechanical drive, but add this and it should help with the speed and snappiness when they run programs, games and accessing their data like pictures and movies. I believe that's how it will work, but I am not sure if these can work on XP systems since the test was done on a Windows 7 system and it does not say at Newegg that it can run on any O/S so I am just double checking.

Again I think it can, but I am asking here in these forums if someone IS using these with XP mechanical drive systems and are they just fine. And I am not sure, but I think they will have to run something like wiper.exe since XP does not have TRIM? Or do these SSD's not require something like?

But Aesma, I hear you though and I would rather go and get an SSD and load Windows 7 for them and be on my merry way, the price is what holds them to what they have.
 
Seems to me a cache is a cache is a cache and it doesn't matter what OS you're using.

I'm sure there's other XP users around that are doing just what you asked about.

The big deal with an SSD is the response time and it doesn't matter what SATA speed you're using to see that.

I dunno how much improvement you'd get and as long as your customers are satisfied with the lack of speed they have now, why bother with it?

There's no way I'd wanna hear a whiney customer complain that this new-fangled gadget you sold him wasn't worth it.

If you want to sell them go buy one and the next time a customer comes in install the thing, move the cache, and show them what it will do.
