Based on how it reacts to aluminum, I'd have to guess that it is some kind of mercury compound. Mercury eats through aluminumoxide, and aluminum oxidizes quickly in air. The result is destructive.

It doesn't contain mercury. If it did I don't think it could be sold in the US.
 
Its actually gallium based, I had a link with its exact contents and will try to locate this again if I have time later.
