I just ordered the following computer parts and was wanting to know if I need additional cooling and if so, what I need:

NZXT Apollo Case
E6600 processor
P5B-E mobo
7600GT video card
2gb buffalo firestix pc6400 ddr2 800 ram

I'm planning to overclock the system as far as I can with stability...

Thanks in advance!

You might be better off with a larger HSF... such as the Scythe Ninja.

Really helps ppl get those higher clocks :).

anything besides a larger HSF that I will for sure need? The case comes with 2x 120mm fans... I'll probably wait to see if I can do it w/o a larger HSF...

Due to the nature of heat transfer, adding more airflow can't make up for a heatsink's inadequacy. It's all very scientific, but suffice it to say you will need an aftermarket heatsink if you want to break 3GHz. You may also want to look into a better video card cooler, though I'm not sure which ones fit on the 7600GT. They do run pretty cool, so it isn't particularly necessary.

what aftermarket heatsink would you guys reccomend and why?

Depends on how much you're willing to spend.
Not much... I don't think I'll try and push it past 3 GHz, atleast for a while. Definitely don't want to spend over $50...

I'd say the Scythe Ninja. I believe it's around $40 from Newegg, and it's one of the better heatsinks out there.

I think the Infinity cools better with more airflow and the Ninja with less airflow.

Well I don't even have my stuff yet (it's on its way) so I don't know if you would consider what I'm going to have as more or less airflow... They both appear to be very large, am I going to have problems with this?

Either one will work fine. Probably within 1-2 degrees C of each other. I would say the Infinity probably has more cooling potential, but the Ninja works better if you're trying to keep things quiet with slower fans.

It should be fine, however you do need to be careful when you are transporting your case (if you are planning on it).

My advice is buy a nice hsf, the 2 you are looking at right now are great ones. Forget the gpu cooler for now and use auto clock on cool bits, it's worked well for me. If you want to get more out of the gpu later you can look at the coolers that zalman makes and also arctic cooler.

one more thing, don't forget your arctic silver (y)

The Zalman video coolers are nice. I use them only because of the noise. You don't need them though. I'd wait and see if you need them before putting down another $30 on a $120 video card.

The Infinity is slightly better, however with an LGA775 system you would probably need to replace the mounting system to get good results. If you're after something that will be quick and easy to set up, then the Ninja will be better for you.

Why do you say that? Just wondering because I was looking at possibly going with an Infinity the next time I take everything apart in my case :).

The infinity is SO heavy that it might not provide the best contact with the CPU.

I don't buy this though (I'm just speculating on Zero's part)

I recommend the Scythe Ninja over the infinity as it does better with a slower fan. I'm all for silent cooling.

The stock mounting system sometimes does not hold down the heatsink with enough force, which causes it to make improper contact and giving the heatsink lackluster performance. There's a guide at xtremesystems.org which explains how to make an alternate mounting system which will provide far better contact, however it would be a bit of a hassle to follow.
