I plan on ordering a

DFI LP LT P35 T2R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

which I will be running with a Q6600, 8GB ram, a WD3200AAKS, and one of the new graphics cards when they are released. I will be putting all of this in the P182 and was wondering if I should stick with the stock NB heatsink, or invest in a fan/cooler. I'm already upgrading my case fans to the YATE LOON 120mm ones, and I'll have a ZEROtherm Nirvana on the CPU. Input?

EDIT: Also, is it worth it to buy a fan controller like this one if I have the extra slot?

Nah........I recommend you with the stock NB HS.,,,If you plan on overclocking your system...well then maybe you should buy it....but if your not...don't waste your money on something your not gonna entirely going to benefit from

As for the Fan Controller.....if you do have extra slots...I recommend it....I have one myself...and I can tell you that it works like a charm! Its a great monitoring/fan adjuster tool with alot of information to show!

Alright. I do plan on doing some overclocking. And thanks for the positive feedback on the fan; that's just what I was looking for. Thanks so much for your input.

i actually would buy a different hs for the nbridge. when ocing a q6600 on a p35, nbridge can get HOT, especially if you set your vid card in the pci-e slot closest to it. something i didn't care for on my old abit ip35-e. looks like a nice board though, i love DFI. love the hs they throw on their nicer x38/x48 chipsets too. anyway... just my opinion.

+1

If you overclock your CPU by raising the FSB (and there is no other way to do it) YOU ALSO OVERCLOCK THE MCH. The MCH requires as much attention to cooling as your CPU.

stick with the stock NB cooler. from what i know if you change it you void your warranty and it cant be averted because there's a sticker attached to the heatsink and mobo. if you want lower temps, get a small 40mm fan and ziptie it to that heatsink. you should get 6-10 C drop in temps. check out graysky's overclock guide, he has a picture of what im talking about

i have a dk p35 t2rs and i've overclocked my q6600 to 3.6 no problem with pretty good temps on the NB. adding the 40mm only helped

With the stock NB my temps idled around 55C. I just ziptied a sycthe minikaze around it and it dropped the temp 9C.

Thanks for input everyone. I'm going to leave the stock HS on, add a fan if necessary, and then I'll add a different fan and heatsink if the need arises.

But just in case if you do overclock to high spectrums....I recommend getting one of these NB heatsinks:

I own the HR 05 and it has cooled down my NB IDLE temps by 11'C from the stock 54'C and for load it has dropped from 72'C down to 54'C. Do note that the heatsinks do'n't come with fans....but it gives you 4 zip ties just in case you do strap on a fan. All of the above temps ^ is cooled by a 80mm fan which is a bit big for the HR-05 but does the job! The IFX is even better as they support pure 80mm by 15mm fans!

Hope this gives you a bit more information!

do any of those TR heatsinks fit with a TRUE that is in the north south orientation for the DFI boards?

i think it's worth it to get a fan controller to control noise and save power. less dust will get inside too. im looking for a nice clean looking black one myself

Yes...I own a TRUE and the HR 05 and it does fit! It should also be compatible for the DFI board your talking about!
