I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this but:

Cooler Master is looking for 30 people who live in the US or Canada to test their new and upcoming UCP(Ultimate Circuit Protection) power supplies.

You can sign up here: http://www.coolermaster.com/us/us_betatest/betatest.php?language=us

The deadline for the sign up is Monday June 16, 2008. Don't wait too long and miss out on this chance. Make sure you read the terms and conditions carefully in the link above before you sign up.

Any Canadian residents should read this on how to fill out your address information: http://forum.coolermaster.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10436

More information on Cooler Master UCP power supplies can be read here: http://www.coolermaster.com/news/hotnews_content.php?year=2008&id=5199

So I applied and I got a confirmation email that they are sending a unit out today. SWEET.

applied, we'll see. and to the OP, if your from coolmaster USA, could you help me find a AM2 bracket for the r120 mini water cooling kit? I havent been able to find it anywhere in the USA.

I got in last night was the last you could sign up, so i dont think they are getting anymore people, got this email this morning..

We have reviewed the information you have provided and we believe you are an excellent candidate to participate in our

Beta Testing project. You are eligible to test our UCP 900W power supply which will be shipped to you today!

Although we do have your shipping address, we were unable to find your zip code.

Please reply to this email with your address and/or zip code by 4:00pm PST today.

Remember, the testing results must be completed by June 27th 2008.

We appreciate you taking the time to participate and we look forward to hearing about your results soon.

i emailed em the stuff back.. hopefully they send me one ^^

something tells me my sig specs arent good enough for them to let me test a 900w psu.

Just got mine, all I can say is it looks niiice. Didn't get a chance to try it out yet.

Anyone know if CM is gonna want these babies back or if we get to keep em?

First impressions:

  • Build quality is superb, cables are designed well and are long and flexible. They are not modular but for me this was fine as I have a lot of gear.
  • Looks, the PSU has a anti-scratch finish that I must say works well and looks great at the same time. Also the lack of LEDs does give it a very professional look and coming from me that is high praise, I do like my LEDs.
  • Noise. Doesn't exist, this power supply is dead silent, compared to my ABS Tagan BZ900 (which I felt was quiet to start) this is the quietest PSU I have used to date, even while running heavy loads.
  • Voltages, I don't have sophisticated equipment to test this with but I can say just from monitoring via Everest, the voltages don't fluctuate as much and they are closer to the nominal values a PSU should output.
  • Efficiency, I think Cooler Master is on to something when they claim up to 88% at 50% load and still near 85% at 100% load. Just idling I am seeing around 50w less usage on my battery backup than with my previous aforementioned Tagan which is of the same wattage and is 80+ certified. Load wattage is also less than the Tagan as well.

I will post pictures later, I fell in love with this PSU already that I put it in my case. Cooler Master is going to have to threaten me to get it back now. :p

hm, not having load and ripple measurements really leaves a gap in any PSU review.. =X

Here are the pics outside my case for initial testing:

we get to keep em, i just talked to the rep (hilda i think?), i should be getting mine tomorrow.

the only thing i would really want changed before hooking it up is modular cabling.. any +800w PS should have em now.

but i do like how long these cables are.

this is a beta test not a review. hell i dunno if we are actually allowed to talk about them.. lol

anyway gwai lo, i doubt you ahve the tools, but if you want you can send em to me. If you dont get em back you can track me down when im back at purdue =p

haha I don't have them :p I know load/ripple testing shouldn't be required from you guys, just commenting.

have a good rest-of-your-summer :)

hah yeah you too.

i think i may know somoene who has em though, and i need the load testing thing for something else. if i get em ill be sure to try em out on my power supply.

now that you mention it, ill email the admin at jonnyguru and see if he wants to test it for me. lol

My guess is that Oklahoma Wolf would've been contacted about something like this already, if not I wonder how they'd take to you shipping him your unit to review haha.

they would have to know who emailed them. this has a different email acct. than what they have, if they did want to research it.

once they send out stuff like this they are basically asking for people like oklahoma wolf to test it

Nope, haven't heard anything from Coolermaster. I couldn't review one of these beta units anyway... the site's main purpose is to review stuff that Joe Consumer can go buy. Doesn't do too much good to review something nobody can buy yet, or might be significantly different when it does become available.

Once in a while I'll make exceptions, like the bargain basement roundup, but yeah... beta units, engineering samples, one-offs... not really much point in reviewing those on a routine basis. Not many folks want to read about something nobody can buy, I reckon, and the site needs hits right now so we can save up for an SM-8800 ;)

Ah, that makes sense...guess I didn't remember that these are beta units, I read it as just Cooler Master handing out units for people to try.

O/T When you guys get back, go to the XXX and knock back some burgers for me. Theyre fucking great. I haven't been up there in about 8 years now :(

On topic:
I LOVE the wrinkle finish on that PSU. I want to see an [H] review, and modular cables.

heh tripleX good times, good times.

i just got back from jonny guru, they dont want the PS because it is a beta product, they feel it would not be an accurate representation of the final product.

edit, lawl, Wolf posted in here.. lawl.

I just got mine 2 days ago and it's a sweet PSU. It is really efficient and I really like the length of the cables. The only thing I don't really like is that proprietary plug.

That could well be the case, but it's hard to say for sure.

There's also the matter of taking someone's personal unit and having the load tester go at it... if it died, then I would have to replace it. I don't make a lot of money... I couldn't afford to replace one of these things.

We were told we would be seeing these long ago, however they have never arrived (yet they are shipping it seems since you folks are already getting them).

On another note.

These have been 80Plus certified for a while so I very much doubt these are "Beta" units and I doubt CoolerMaster really had that many engineering samples laying around.

I would also like to point out I did get a warranty card for 5 years with it so I think this is very close to the final product if they are providing warranties. Not to mention the pretty retail box it shipped in.

Actually, this might be one big marketing scheme to build up hype about these PSUs before they actually release it.

Oh and to the guy who mentioned the proprietary power plug, I think I have seen other PSUs use it before too. Mainly the very high wattage ones.

yeah they look like a full retail product... im betting this is more of a marketing hype thing than an actual test.

thats why i emailed the guys at jonnyguru.

So Paul, if you have the right tools for really testing the PSU, send me a PM and lets see if we can work something out. i really want to see how the load and ripple measurements are.

Venture out to the front page much?
