Cooler Master Stacker 830 Full Tower Case

lol :D well, imo, it looks ugly, i know it's not all about looks.. obviously, cooling build looks nice though :)

It's ugly, and lacking severely in the features that made the original Stacker great. I like the cooling upgrades though.

Any case that has a front door=NO

I want it, the original stacker was great, but lacking some style. This one makes up for it will all the same great features.

I have an 830 here now to replace my original stacker. From a functionality standpoint, the thing kicks ass.

I think the plainess in a sea of robot cases and general BS is what made the Stacker so appealing. CM's latest designs are all getting uglier. As is the trend.

I concur that the angular look is a bit annoying, but the prior stacker was just too plain for me. Something around the looks of the kandolf or the armor is about right

The armors front drive bay flap things are annoying as hell. I just can't agree. I can't remember what the Kandolf armor looked like. It obviously didn't wow me since I don't remember it and didn't buy one.

Fair enough :). They're all great cases from a functional standpoint in my view due to their pure size. I have an oldschool antec dragon right now and i just have way too much hardware for that case to be big enough even though its a full tower. I need one of these super-tower eatx types :)

This thing has crazy water-cooling potential! Up to 3x 120mm in front, one 120mm in back, one 120mm on top, one crossflow fan, and get this: up to FOUR 140mm on the side. I shit you not. Of course, you could put 120s, 90s, 80s, or 60s on the side instead, but that's beside the point. I definitely preordering myself one of these babies!

Btw, first post, heheh...

what about one of those quad heater cores right on the side .. um... hinges

Can't go wrong with Stacker!
But man you need to make sure you have some quite fans!

Man, it seems like every new stacker takes one step forward and two steps back... they just never seem to get it right. The one big thing that kept me from buying a stacker is the lack of a front bezel. I like to have my drives and crap hidden. Ive been hoping all along for a stacker to come out, and have a mesh bezel, so that it would still allow for the fans in the front. Finally, they do that, but then make it look all crapity. A simple square that coveres the whole front would do nicely... that bezel just looks stupid.

Furthermore is the side panel. WTF is up with the odly shaped crap anyways? Give it a window, and make it a squaure... like any other case with a window. The rest of it looks nice. Insides look well thought and easy to work in. This case is perfect for watercooling.... it just is not my style on the outside. Heres to hoping for a CM Stacker 850 that looks... oh I dunno... normal.

mixed emotions huh .. i think CM is trying to be too inovative. Groupthink + R&D

Problem is when you pull the doors off, most cases look like ass.

check out the video review on www.3dgameman.com.

I know what you mean about what it looks like behind most doors. This one kinda just looks like the old stacker front when you take off the door.

A lot of people are knocking this case big time. I think if the price is right, that case provides a lot of value. It is VERY flexible, light, THERMO-ready, etc....

I personally very much like the styleing. To me the styleing shows are great deal of thought and difficulty. I think that CM R&D might be trying a bit too hard to be innovative. Some things you just don't mess with / or offer different options.

For example the shape of the side mesh on the new Stacker, From a marketing perspective you are absoltely rulling out the chance of selling that case to a person that ONLY buys cases with clear/square/windows. Like I said, it isn't that what the did was wrong, I for one like it. It's just that by ONLY doing that, they may have ailenated themselves from a good portion of the market.

From a person with a LOT of marketing training: ADD a side panel option with a clear/square/window AND another option for the front bezel (possibly one simply without the mesh at all / or a long vertile rectangle ..... or both.

hoa ... what a rant .. jeez .. sorry

I think you guys are missing the point. The Stacker never was about the looks, it was about functionality. Until lately, it has been the watercooler's case of choice since it was the only case on the market which could hold a triple radiator. Now CM has cemented that reputation with the ability to hold multiple double radiators, at maximum three, or two doubles and a triple. The effictively means one 120mm x2 radiator for the cpu and one for each of your SLI/Crossfire gfx cards (or any other chip for that matter). Try finding a windowed case with that many options.

That's why I own three CM Stackers. I have found their flexibility to be absolutely the best. I am not too certain about this new one. I'll look them over when I can see one in person. They dropped the second PSU option, which is something I used in the past. I don't know if I'll ever need it again, but it's a nice feature I wish they had kept.

Really, I just can't get over the styling of the new Stacker. It is just too busy for my tastes.

sexy case.....i like it! much better than the regular stacker in looks and functionality IMO

a couple of things

firstly. .the door is REMOVABLE . . so no bitching about the dam door. they made it look seamless so you dont see the hinges.

ok, it looks like most new cases on the market, but it still retains the general look of the original stacker, especially with the front door off. It still looks better than most Thermaltake cases, and dont get me started on Aspire or antec. Its simplicity was always its appeal, now its just simple but only in comparison to the ever increasing number of flashy case designs (i.e. Xaser, Alien, Aspire, etc).

and someone early on said it took away some features . .. like what?? ok the bottom mounted PSU will be missed. . . but if you want that just get the original, you will be saving yourself 140 dollars, almost enough to get a SECOND CM STACKER!!! Both have their good points, i see the 830 as a move forward, but also a bit to the side, really if they combine all the great things from the stacker with some of the improvements of the 830 and redesign the outside style a bit they could really have a winning case all around. I have never owned a stacker, but im buying one from my retail store as soon as i get my first paycheck so i can use my discount. I've checked out the display model alot and seen alot on the web, until recently i was stuck between the stacker and the armor but overall the stacker's simpler look and larger amount of functions won it over.

Once i buy it im looking into getting a set of quiet fans for the top, side, 3x Front and single back fan. Then since i only have 4 HDD's in line for the server, ill put 2 80mms in the top PSU slot until i need a second power unit. The 300mm crossflow fan is questionable, i dont really see it as that useful, and at 34$ it isnt cheap as far as fans go. Im looking forward to working on it, sorry for rambling on EXTREMELY long, ill shut up now ^_^

Doesn't matter. You missed the part where this was already addressed. :D When you take the doors off of any case that was meant to have a door, you are left with a box that looks ghetto and ugly. So I will continue to bitch about it.

What's sad is the reviews I've read stated that the case is just as heavy as the original Stacker. Since it's virtually all aluminum I find that to be insane. I do have to say I love the cooling and layout of it. But unless I see one myself and absolutely start to change my mind, I will likely stick with my Stacker STC-101's.

first off i didn't miss anything, this thread is barely two pages.

secondly, you are making a huge generalization, when you say is meant to have a door, this case was designed with the idea that the door doesn't have to be there, thus the tool free removal, installation, and design implimented with that in mind. So if you have at least see a video review or some pictures you should have a decent idea of that.

If you want to keep your old stacker, that's great. I could care less ;) . Cuz i wouldn't waste my money on this overpriced flash bomb. Like i was saying you can almost buy two stackers for the price of the 830, and rightfully you should because they are a better deal.

I still think that without the door it's ugly. Just because my observation (based on my opinion) is a generalization doesn't mean it isn't right. Most generalizations are if they are based on statistical probabilities and facts.

I also don't like the fact they pulled the filters from the 5 1/2 bays. With all those fans dust intake is a problem. As it is I can see dust acumulate on my vented face plates 1 day after cleaning them. So I tend to clean them everyday. The interior does stay relatively dust free though. I'd hate to see the insides of my Stackers with the filters removed.

Honestly, I like it alot!

Where can I get one?

I don't know. I haven't seen the available anywhere yet. They are around $250 though.

I would actually spend $250 on it. I checked coolermasters site and it says available January 2006. :(

well from what i see i still prefer the stc101 over the 830 anyway. So this argument is completely mute i suppose. Just saying that your generalization is geared towards cases were people mod to remove to case door and that in such an instance yes, it might look butt ugly, but in this case it was designed to be removed if wanted, so it has a more flush look, and the only thing that isn't flush with the front is the overhanging usb/audio/1394 connections. . .anyway yea im getting the stc101 this month :D

Now I guess the question for me is this new Stacker, or the Lian Li V2000/2100 Series? Any opinons? I was going to go with the LianLi, but this stacker looks like it may even be larger and have better cooling options!
