In reference to the prior post: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1472843

I'm having the same issues, actually. It's happened over the past week or two. I thought it was perhaps the flaky internet connection, but I just had it happen AGAIN on another network with another internet connection.

I opened a post up in a new tab, read it, then back to my CP. Click on another link to another post then I'm logged out.

I realize OP in that post might've found a resolution, I could second the fact it might not be an isolated issue.

That said it's really no big deal, just bringing your attention to it as it *might* be an issue with the forum itself.

FWIW I am also logged into both www and http.

IE8, on both networks/connections.

I don't have the problem anywhere else, and I run IE8 vanilla so...

Every time we see this issue, it is a client problem. Cookies turned off etc...

Just happened again. Was looking at a thread, went off to do some research online, came back in the Quick Reply, tried to post: and I'm not logged in anymore.

The forum is most definately timing me out unless I check the "Remember Me" box. It seems like if I don't check that box, I get timed out- even if I never leave the session.

We have changed nothing in how we serve pages in well over 6 months.

Thanks for letting us know of your issue, but we are not equipped to diagnose your problem. Clear cookies, clear cache, clear dns. Etc. Then see if you have the same issues. Sounds like something very account specific though.

IE8 just sucks at keeping track of cookies.
Crash your computer with a browser open, restart and use the 'restore session' option.
You won't be logged in any more.

I haven't worked out when it kills your cookies, but closing a browser window seems to do that sometimes, also.

I guess I could say that I have this problem... But it's definitely not something wrong with the forum itself.

I'd like to see how you can blame this one on a cookie problem...

11:54 started session in IE 8
12:03 started session in FF 3.5.5
12:05 started session in Opera 10.10

Left them sit. 12:48 I click on a link inside of each of those browser sessions, and I'm signed out of every single one of them.

I think this pretty well establishes that I'm correct it's a forum issue. IE8 is vanilla, as I said, and FF and Opera were fresh installs (IE, also vanilla).

This didn't start happening to me until I upgraded to win7 and IE8.

It's evident that this is a user issue and not a forum issue because, as Kyle explained, the way in which pages are served has not been changed since long before you started having the problem.

That fact alone makes it obvious.

This didn't start happening to me until I upgraded to win7 and IE8.

It's also happening on Vista as well.
And as I said, I just tested it out on both FF and Opera.

So it being a "client issue" I don't think is the case.

I can boot into an XP VM and try it on XP but I'd bet I'd get the same results.

The point you've missed, three times, is that they have not changed anything in the way the pages are served. Which completely eliminates everything BUT client issues.

I'm running XP at work and I don't have any problems with the [H] forum here.

The point you've missed, three times, is that I can reproduce this issue time and time again on multiple systems and multiple networks without fail.
You must not work with end users much. I've had server glitches that have taken users months to come across after an upgrade as well. Just because it's been months doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Just verified this issue on XP as well.

Thanks for keeping us informed of the issue. I will keep my ear to the ground to see if this impacts any other users. I cannot duplicate the issue on Opera, FF, Safari, or IE8.

A single user being able to reproduce an issue on multiple systems and multiple networks maintained by said user, is more of an indication of a failure in the configuration of said client systems by said user.

I deal with end users on a daily basis. That's how I know the end user is _always_ wrong.

I am going to ask, and excuse its simplicity, you are of course checkmarking the tic box at the top of the page to "Remember Me?" Right?

So this is not kicking you out like every 2 or 3 minutes? You are talking about it doing it every half hour?

Yes, I think it is set to 10 minutes right now and this will not be changing. Sorry.

Fair enough... I just thought it odd it'd be set like that not being a banking or financial website or something.

I think it is really simple. You want to stay logged in, we want it to be YOUR decision, not ours. :)
