There is a difference between whether SLI performance is worthwhile and viable,
and whether a particular person's parameters make sli a good choice for them.
I have a feeling a poll might not differentiate with the nuances.
To name a few considerations.. budget, existing rig, upgrade path, monitor resolution, demand high hz gameplay/aesthetics?, ok with dialing down settings (how much?) - to get high fps and hz (100+ avg) on a high hz monitor?, favorite types of games and titles, also game library/backlog.
You know my vote on sli itself rather than if it's right for you. That is your own decision.
I'll reiterate here since quotes are space savers.
Have my 1080 Ti's waiting on heatkiller blocks from Germany (no stock anywhere!). I have 2 980 Ti's in my rig now and 1 1080 Ti would be a downgrade so I got two. Will upgrade CPU and mobo at Skylake-X then I'm good to go for several years.
Seriously, fuck you guys. I am going to buy 2 STRIX when they are out.
Might as well buy a FE and a water blockThose Strix cards are being listed at £789-799 (for the OC) in the UK.
Fucking £90 for the cooler. Gouging mother fuckers.
Going to resurrect this thread....
So has anyone NOT found a compelling reason to SLI, after having actually SLI'd 1080ti's? Please answer if you have actually SLId 1080tis and now have found no reason to do so. I have two in my Threadripper but not sure I want to keep it. I am playing with them now.
I've enjoyed it. That said, with support seeming to dwindle, I'm not certain I'll do another SLI setup in the future. Time will tell.
Don't do it
I played quite a bit of bf1 yesterday on that new snow map. Every time I play that game at 90-110ish fps and it's buttery fucking smooth I remember why I love my SLI setup so much. At 4k and having that much fps to spare maxed out is a thing of beauty and a joy as a PC gamer to behold. Anyone gaming at this res needs SLI at this point there is no choice. Maybe next gen Volta you don't have to but for now I wouldn't have it any other way.
People are infatuated with graphics detail in still shots, but you don't play screen shots. If you are using a high hz display or high hz + variable hz to run low (sub 75fps-hz to 90fps-hz mode/most of the time in game, really should be like 100 at least imo), you are essentially running a low hz, low motion definition and motion articulation, smearing blur monitor and missing out on most of the gaming advancements modern gaming monitors provide outside of the judder/tearing/stops avoidance of g-sync/variable hz.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
60fps at 60hz = baseline standard. Smearing blur.
...........................0% blur reduction.
...........................0% motion definition increase which is a 1:1 ratio of motion definition
.................................(equal frames shown compared to every 1 baseline 60fps-hz frame).
.
80fps at 80hz = ~20% blur reduction.
............................1.3 frames shown compared to every 1 frame at 60fps+hz.
............................little motion definition increase, 8 frames to every 6.
.
100fps at 100hz = 40% blur reduction
................................5 frames shown for every 3 at 60fps-hz. (or 1.6 to 1)
................................5:3 ratio or 1.6:1
.
120fps at 120hz = 50% blur reduction
..............................more of a soften blur within the mask of onscreen objects and overall game world elements.
..............................2 frames shown for every 1 shown at 60fps-hz (2:1 motion def increase, double the motion def)
.
144fps at 144hz = 60% blur reduction
..............................2.4 frames shown for every 1 shown at 60fps-hz (or 12 frames to every 5 shown at 60fps-hz)

I guess the metrics are just: 1080p is still the king of most gamers and we that run 3440x1440 and 4k are exotic boutique types. SlI must be a drain on developers to support. I assumed with the push to higher res displays it would renew the need to focus on sli.
Of course I'm running 3440 which isn't 4k but is much higher than normal 1440p so I assumed maybe a benefit would be seen. I have a few weeks left to see if I want to keep the extra card before my return window closes.
I'm running dual Asus Poseidon 1080tis. 1 on water and the 2nd I'm Just got on air u too I'm sure I want it.

Destiny 2 is supposed to have full SLI support from the developer.Vulkan/DX12 having no support and it being back in the developers' laps --- I'd probably not get another SLI/Crossfire setup.
I think BF1 on DX11 may be the last hurrah for Multi GPU

Interesting - would love to see how this comes to pass.Destiny 2 is supposed to have full SLI support from the developer.
Sniper elite 4 has full dx12 sli support I was getting 98% on both GPUs and it runs sweet. So DX12 is just slow to take off maybe?
Vulkan doesnt need SLI. Vulkan can hit 150 fps on a calculator its such an impressive engine.
I would keep it if at least 50% of future titles would use sli. If not the. It's not worth the money from what I can tell.
SLI and crossfire at this point are not very useful anymore.
You will continue to see poor support from Nvidia and AMD on drivers, they almost always need a driver update to fix some weird glitch as well. Just not worth the trouble anymore.
I would stay with just one card and wait to upgrade when either Volta or Navi are out as they are both likely to play 4k just fine. At worse you just wont be able to max graphic settings and that is far less frustrating then random glitches that you have to wait for a fix on.
The mention of Unreal Engine 4 (UE) often brings to mind impressive-looking demos that elicit more than a fair share of oohs and aahs. Epic Games isn't resting on its laurels, and it's just released UE 4.15 with support for alternate frame rendering (AFR) on Nvidia SLI configurations and experimental support for HDR output, along with a Kardashian buttload of performance optimizations and developer-oriented improvements.
You should definitely SLI. I have dual Titan XP's and it is a great experience. Playing BF1 on max settings at 6K resolution and pegged at 60 fps (monitor refresh rate). Most games are similar. Most people who complain about SLI probably are just going off of articles they have read and not their own personal experience, or at least not recent experience. Most of the past problems like microstutter are not an issue anymore. SLI support does not seem to be dying - I think nvidia limiting games to 2 way SLI was a positive thing because it lets developers, and even nvidia programmers, focus on perfecting 2-way configuration. DX12 provides more options for game developers to implement it as well.
