Wife's PC is moving to the living room and she needs it to be small and quiet. So I started to research the best plan of action.

Her current setup (using older parts of mine);

Q6600 C0 SLACR 95w
Abit IP35 Pro
4 Gb Corsair PC6400C5
ASUS 5770 V2
Lian Li A-70B
1 40Gb Kingston SSD
1 Raptor 150Gb
1 TD Green WD
ASUS DVD-RW
Prolimatech Megahalem

Considering the size of the system (A-70B) I guess I can understand her frustration about putting it in the living room. So I am looking at something like this;

Q6600 C0 SLACR 95w
Zotac 9300 G-E
4 Gb Corsair PC6400C5
ASUS 5770 V2
SILVERSTONE Sugo SG05-B
1 40Gb Kingston SSD
1 Raptor 150Gb
COOLER MASTER GeminII (Passive Cooling)

Convert the 1TB Drive to an external eSATA enclosure.

My only concerns that I see at the moment would be the GeminII. I read through the hundreds of threads but never seen these two addressed.

1. Will Corsair's heatsinks on the memory prevent the GeminII from being used? I noticed it was a very tight fit with non heatsinked low profile memory already. They are the normal heatspreaders used in thier lower branded products.
2. Will the GeminII work fine with the Q6600 at stock being passively cooled?

Hopefully someone can answer these two questions with real world experience because I'm working on a sub 200 dollar budget :)

If there are any other issues with that setup please by all means let me know.
 
The build looks fine.
EDIT: I don't know about the cooler fitting.
"passive" means true passive, no airflow.
I assume you mean a big o'l case fan will be blowing over a HS without a direct fan attached?

I went from ATX tower to mATX cube just recently, so I guess my experience can be somewhat similar, but not exact.

I have a SuGo SU02-F. It has similar clearences for the CPU cooler, and it... fits. The stock 65nm cooler fits well.

I added about 3 other fans, too.
 
It will fit, same RAM as me, at stock speed the Q6600 should work fine, but i'd go for a Q9xx0 if I were you. Maybe you are pushing it with that hot power hungry quad and a 5770 with a 350W PSU.

I have an e8500 OC@3.6Ghz and an GTS250 working just fine with an 8cm slow speed fan on the chipset on the same case.

Let me know if you have any doubts
 
memory will fit fine as i used same with my setup . you should add a 80mm fan over the northbridge heatsink as it needs some sort of cooling.

Man I dunno I'm torn because [H]'s review of the 5770 put the full load at 304w with an I7 @ 3.6. It's cutting it close I think because at http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine the same setup as the one I'm suggesting with a 4770 would be 270w. The 5770 puts out IIRC 26w more at load than the 4770.

Those figures were with me selecting 100% load on CPU and components.
 
It should still work, It's just me, never been comfortable on pushing the PSU too much, It will work as i said.
 
I might be able to grab a e6750 for free, it's older but it's 65w. Should I go that route?
 
Hmm I might just part out her PC and get a new mITX Core i5 system.

Would the 300w power supply be good enough for

I think that might be pushing it because I surely can not passively cool the i5. I could sell her total setup for around 450-500 and still pay out another 200.
 
The SG05 and SG06 have a 450w PSU available soon (see www.sffclub.com)

It would easily handle all that..in fact the 350w could too but is pushing it.

Also, Silverstone has other mini-itx cases in the works ;)

Will it be out at the same time as the DFI mITX board? Dec 8-12'th?
