So basicly since i switched from Vista 64 to Win764 I have continuing problems with my system freezing..esp when trying to copy or move large amounts of files. I have tested my ram and actually completely replaced it with new. I have updated my bios and video drivers, I have made sure that the settings for my ram are correct. I have upgraded/replaced my video card from the 8800gtx to the new 460.
Nothing is overclocked and everything is running at stock.
Im really at a loss here and have considered just replacing the motherboard/ram/cpu at this point.
Any ideas?
I have googled the problem and it seems lots of others also have freezing problems. Oh and btw, I have to hard reset the system to come out of it.
thanks.

have you done a fresh install of windows again since you where having these problems?

I have done three completely clean installs...every install has the problem.

[Testing the Hard Drive]
Download the CD image of Hitachi Drive Fitness Test, burn the ISO file to a CD, and then boot from it, just like you would do with the XP/Vista install CD. Test the hard drive and see if any problems are found. DFT will run on most manufacturers' hard drives. Alternatively, you can use Seagate's SeaTools for DOS to test a Seagate or Maxtor drive. For a Western Digital drive, you could use Data Lifeguard Tools for DOS to test a Western Digital drive.

[Testing the CPU]
Use Prime 95, OCCT, Orthos or Intel Burn Tool to stress test the CPU.

[Testing the PSU]
Buy and use a digital multi-meter to monitor the voltages coming from the PSU. Follow the instructions for "Using a multi-meter to check voltages":

Heres what I did yesterday. Disconnected all external USB HDD's. Disconnected all internal HDD's that were used for storage. Formated and did a clean install of W7/64 onto my Intel SSD. Everything ran smoothly when I was finished with the install. I then reconnected my WD "mybook" network drive (external) and everything continued to run smooth. After that my final test was to connect the WD internal drive I was using for storage and try and copy large amounts of files over to the "mybook". I let the rig run over night and SUCCESS..not one lockup/freeze during the copying. Thankgod. I feel I finally have my system running correctly.
Thanks.

After reading your post again, it seems you had an issue with local copying rather than over your network. But for sake of knowledge here's what I wrote.

My P5B-E gave me severe grief due to shoddy Win7 x64 drivers for the onboard Atheros NIC. It would lock when performing large file transfers over the network. However, sufing and gaming usually weren't an issue. The problem did eventually go away after several uninstall/reinstall/update attempts. Out of fear of the issue possibly returning, I bought an el-cheapo Realtek NIC, slapped it in, and disabled the onboard. Haven't had a problem since.

I have thought about doing that same thing...thats next on my list.

As a fellow P5B-E owner, I experienced silent corruption of network transfers in certain conditions in Vista x64. I upgraded drivers straight from Atheros - no improvement. Disabling any and all offloading options eventually made it stop, I think. Disabling it after installing an Intel Gigabit CT desktop adapter stopped the problems once and for all :) I'm still not sure just how many of my files on my samba shares (where I keep all my most important data) could have some issues. Luckily I noticed it with some photos that I Synctoy to a share.
