Heya all,

I have a computer with a brand new "Be Quiet" 350watt power supply. It is powering a AMD 5050e on a Biostar TF720 a2+ motherboard, 2 sticks of 1Gb RAM. There are 7 hard drives, 3 of which are WD green divers; and a CD-ROM. The computer will boot and after a while it will just shut off. I checked it with another computer with bare stuff, 1 stick of ram, one hard drive and it still does it.

Now I am sure this is shoot, even though it is brand new. My question, is the 350watt enough? It will be on a lot, nearly 24/7 since it is my WHS.

Test the RAM for errors, check the cpu temp to see if it is overheating, if both of those are ok it might be the PSU. The PSU should be enough power for this system.

If it seems like there is no other problem than it just shutting off after a while then it probably is a temperature problem. Take off the heatsink clean the thermal paste off, put new thermal paste and the heatsink back on.

CPU temps are okay. I tried this PSU on two different computers... same problem...

Which Be Quiet 350W PSU do you have? Specific model please.

But with your specs in mind, I recommend at least a good quality 450W PSU. Since you have tested that PSU on another system, you may have to RMA or get a better quality PSU.

If you tried the PSU on two other computers and it's causing the same issue, then it's pretty likely that it's faulty. 350W should be enough for your server providing it's actually a good 300W unit.
