Hi guys, I am just wondering what you guys prefer. I am strong fan of the console genre. I mean really, you can buy all three consoles with games and accesories for the price of a good pc. They have served me well for about 4 years and still top the pc I think. I am playing GT4 and RE4 on my 36" HDTV right now and it looks amazing. The new consoles should blow these out of the water too. It is also easier to play. I am very pc savvy, but I think people just like to play with their pc's. Is it really worth it to fool with drivers, overclocking, autoexecs, etc just to play a game. I just bought a nice A64 3200 and a 9800 pro because I got it for just about nothing in a trade with my old Athlon 1700. It looks a little bit better than the consoles, but I play them so much more.

People say monitors are better than TV's; but to me, I would much rather play on a console in front of my TV. People need to stop wating thousands on the best hardware equipment and just play the game. Who cares if about 2 extra fps or bragging rights. I bet most people on here spend 5x as much time benchmarking and tweaking than they do playing. I like controllers better than a keyboard anyway. If you like keyboard/mouse you can get an adapter for your console anyway. And, how do people say pc's look so much better than consoles. These new console games are really impressive for their hardware and look better in most cases to me. It won't even be close with the PS3 and such.

Even if you think PC's look better, there are so many more games for consoles. Just about the only game I play for the pc is HL2/CSS which ran fine on my old Athlon 1700 even. I occasionally play WOW at my friend's house, but I would never pay a monthly fee for it. Take a look at all the must own console games:

MGS3
RE4
GT4
Halo 2
Zelda WW and the new one coming out
Metroid Prime 1+2
God of War
Jade Empire

The games that aren't console specific like GTA get ported to the PC way after their release which aren't usually as good anyway. There are a lot mor games that I can't think of right now too. This isn't a well thought out post and I didn't intend to turn this into a pathetic rant, but I just rambled on. Regardless, does anybody agree with me?

Played consoles since I was 7 years old and I have a hard time enjoying them in comparison to PC games. There are alot of console games i'd like to play, I simply only have the time and mone for one genre and I prefer PC with that time.

uh....when you count the thousands of games for pc that can be emulated  wait i mean thats illegal and morally wrong :pplay a console on a pc monitor and you'll see how shitty it really looks

It all depends on what you are into, I enjoy both, but I find myself playing games on the PC more, because, and there is no debate on this, the FPSs are so much better. And I don't care what anyone says, the monitor looks a hell of a lot better than the TV. In my room I have an older dell 18" monitor that is hooked up to all my Dreamcast, thru a VGA box (as well as a back up comp) and I can say the clarity is much better on the monitor. Plus the PC can do much more than the console anyways, I just get more money worth out of my comp (as well as make money on it from selling things and making sites). Oh, and the stats on the consoles get obsolete very quickly... ;)

Just my 2 cents
-Matt

I think its really a matter of preference. I personally enjoy single player games more on my pc, and i prefer to play multiplayer games with my friends on their consoles. I have been known to buy a console just for one game (GC for RE4), but i usually end up selling them soon after. I agree with the cost issue, pcs will always be behind in that area.

A combination of both is best.

I agree with that statement.
There is some gates you just cant get for console...
And also some games you cant get for PC

I game on my PC and xbox about the same amount of time.
Gotta have best of both words :D

I game on both...My rig is in my sig, and my HT setup cost about 15k! :D Worth every penny though! Can't wait till XB2 and PS3 come out hehe. PC gaming has really been suckin' for me lately since I hate RPG's and RTS...which leaves me with crap like HL2 and Doom 3. The only game I *really* play is BF1942 with DC or FH. The only game i'm really looking forward to is BF2.:( I've been playing Gran Turismo 4 a lot, and I can tell you one thing for sure, its a LOT better than any crappy PC racer. I dont care if its not 100% realistic either...its just...fun. PS3 and XB2 will rock me though

I didn't mean to start a flame war. I play pc games a little bit, but strongly prefer console games. So many more quality games.

Here comes the fuel on the fire hehe

Consols are great for average fun time gaming.

PC's are Outstanding for gaming (pending on how much you spend) and there also a nerve center to almost every home these days. I mean you can do work on them, video, music, games, pr0n...pr0n and sometimes when nobody is looking....more pr0n.

When they bring that to the xbox or playstation then I might consider but I still love computers. I'm truely [H], I love computers for the sport of SQEEZING every ounce of power out of them.

Whoa...I have to call you on that, name 20 console titles that are quality. As in quality I mean have ranked 4 out of 5 stars, 8 out of 10, 2 thumbs up and such.

::Waits::

I like both so I own both. Kinda pointless to argue when you have both. :p

You could always argue with yourself... ;)

I've played consoles since the Atari 2600 was NEW, and have been PC Gaming since...oh hell, a long time, and have been gaming in general for a very long time. Gaming is gaming, as long as you are having fun (it's a GAME) does it matter which is better? Hell, there are way more games available that you can play then there are for consoles... so, they are better then consoles :)

Peace,
Tim

4 out 5 stars according to who? I couldn't give a shit about ONE or FIVE reviewers' opinions because I like to think for myself. A ton of people (and critics) absolutely hated Suikoden III, but I found that it was one of the best RPGs I've played to date and it's worthy of the Suikoden name.

Calm down.
:)
We can't base it off 1 persons likes because he made a statement. I think for the most part reviews are pretty close and you can at least get a general feel if your going to like the game or not.

No, we don't have to base it off of one person's opinions because we have a choice; he's not shoving it down anyone's throat, he's just stating his opinion and let's take it as such. And no, I don't always agree with reviewers for the exact same reason I just stated in my first sentence. I mean let's face it, we're not in Soviet Russia anymore.

I quit.

I like a lot of console games and play them often but I still prefer my keyboard / mouse / flight stick to my S controller anyday.

Since I can only afford one. I will go with PC because there are more genres with PC games.

Blinkme323, you forgot Super Mario Sunshine :(

I bought the game for 5 dollars off a friend, and have been having fun ever since :D

Both are equal in my eyes, the games and their replayability is what it comes down to.

I was thinking the same... but figured I'd stick around. For once someone asked what we prefer instead of trying to tell us why we would be a fool to think otherwise. Those topics have made it clear who prefers what so it's still kind of a dead horse but hey it's an improvement.

Oh.... drumroll please...

PC.

My playing of first person shooters outranks my time with other types of games 10:1. 'Nuff said. :p

I prefer PC gaming. I own a couple consoles and they are fun to game on but overall PC gaming is much more fun for me. I'd also take PC games over console games anyday.

I prefer console gaming. It's:

easier on my hands (carpal tunnel sucks),

easier to use with my home theater (no, I'm not hauling my PC into the living room to play games, and then back to my desk for programming),

much easier to play with my friends (my friends do not have gaming rigs, but many of them have Xboxes, and we can easily get a few people and a few controllers together to play some Halo), and

less of a hassle (no worrying about whether I need a driver update to play the latest game without glitches).

However, there are some games that come out for PC first (Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Pirates) and I'll play them on PC if they're not out for consoles. The games are the reason for playing, and if the game you want to play is only on one platform, then anything else is just !!!!!! wanking.

Didn't mean to squash your argument or anything, I just want to tell people to be a little bit more open minded when selecting a game to buy. Reviews aren't TOTALLY useless. :p

I used to be a console !!!!!!, but now Ive switched sides. Consoles offer no upgrading, so you once you buy hardware, thats all the hardware you get. More genres come out for pc than consoles, and I like the keyboard for controlling more in fps's than consoles (duh), and for other games, I just get a gamepad thats a console clone. I think that developers should get over their aliances with consoles, like Square when they finally brought over FF to the pc, and just make games for both platforms.

As for general console vs. pc reasons for me to go pc, I like tweaking a lot with my computer, the better graphics, and I just like all that pcs can do.

i like both.. i tend to switch... like for a few months i game more on console.. and then for another few months.. i game more on PC..

at the moment.. i'm gaming on PC more.. i don't think i'll game on console till the new systems come out.. at the moment i feel like the consoles are already on the decline.. so i'll wait for something fresh in the consoel market...

Here's some food for thought. I've bought many PC games that got put on a shelf and waited there until I could afford to upgrade my machine. At least when you go looking for a console game, you know it will play the same as it will on anyone's console.

you can look at system requierments you know..

PCs for me. I'll have to admit though, the convienence and hasstle-free gaming (well for the most part) of consoles is very tempting, but I prefer a more richer, non-linear experience when I get my fix.

The PC offers the chance for players to further enrich their gaming. Websites featuring additional content, such as mods (very important), movies, concept arts, gaming patches, etc.., all provide gamers with a wealth of fun that could potentially last years.

Coupled with advanced graphics, larger viewing area (compared to a low-res TV, 6 feet away), etc, all makes PCs win out, in my opinion over consoles.

Jus my 2cents.

i would agree with that.. games last longer on PC.. as in .. you don't get bored of them as fast as you do on a console..

PC's for now... until Xbox 2.

Yeah... I'm somewhat of a graphics whore. :D

It is expensive But im doing the PC/XBOX2 combo. I saving up now for a new PC for when the next gen games hit. I should be good through stalker and quake 4 but after that im gonna need a new rig. And an xbox 2. $$$

Yeah, I do that, but if it's a game I REALLY want and it's bargain bin, I'll buy it since sooner or later I know I'll upgrade.

The ps2 just doesn't get used as much as the PCs around here. I miss the simple days of River Raid and Pac Man sometimes on the Atari 2600, but the amount of control given to a player on a pc is amazing. The games that PCs don't seem to get a hold of are the Crash Bandicoots, Tekkens and Marios. RPG's, RTS's and FPS's are ruled by the PC. Simulators are a toss up, racing console, Flight PCs.
In my world it's possible to survive without a console around, but my business, school, and home scheduling revolves around a PC, so why not use it for play too?

As everyone has pointed out time and again, this discussion will go on for ages until everything is a tablet pc like Star Trek, then it won't matter... :D :D :D

Later

I have a cube, xbox and a decent PC. There are advantages and disadvantages to all three. PC gaming is what pushes the envelope IMO. And then that technology filters its way down to the consoles. I think it would be crap to have one without the other (both for me personally and for the gaming industry as a whole).

I have a set of internet buddys and a set of real life friends I like to play with. So its nice that we all can talk on ventrillo (voice chat program) and play whatever ^_^. Consoles dont have near the connectivity as a pc yet, so to me its worth it right there.
