I just need a place to vent:

What happened to FPS?
Mass Effect
Asassins Creed
Gothic (All of them)
Two Worlds
Witcher

Fable is the only one that got the 3rd person perspective right!!!

I went out and got a lot of games to try out my new Nvidia 285 and I gave them a fighting chance.... but i just cant get past the feeling that i should be playing them with a game pad instead of a keyboard and mouse. Are the "next gen gamers" just stupid or what? Does anyone have a good reason, other than mass appeal, that it seems like all of the games are being created for console and then being port'd for the PC?

I guess everyone just wants to pick up a game pad and play for about 15 minutes and call it a day...... Myself... i consider myself a serious gamer and i can sit down and play for hours, but these "consoly" games are a real let down.

Its not a matter of convincing the gaming companies that console sucks.... Its a matter of convincing gamers that console sucks.......

Does any one agree?.. and how can we start this revolution?

Just needin to vent a little!

Or maybe they don't want to have to upgrade their system constantly to keep up (or whenever) and just pay a flat fee. Consoles are easier to understand for people. A controller is simpler than a KB/M.

Let me elobrate on the FPS point

Its not that i dont like 3rd person or over the sholder.... like i said... Fable got it right.... but from a PC Gamer's perspective, first person is a lot more enthralling

My point exactly!!!!!

And to the upgrade point....You can buy a console and its only capable of playing the current games.... all of the game that come out later that year have to be dumbed down to work on the console that you just bought

Your missing the point.... why should game companies incure the cost of programming for new technology when all they need to do is use the out dated engines that are supported by the consoles.

New PC technology is what is driving all of the advancements in gaming.

Are consoles simpler sure. But a console controller better than a KBM? That simply depends on what you're used to. Being a PC only gamer, don't have any consoles but always have at least one high end gaming PC, console controllers suck for most games. But my console gaming buddies would disagree.

thats probably because the have never really sat down and gave PC gaming a chance... be it a lack of time, patience, etc....

you need to school them... or PC gaming will die!

It starts with you and me!

I think I need to be a little more ensitefull on this point...
I understand that being a PC Gamer can be expensive, but if you look at my argument that PC technology is driving gaming advancement, .... than you could say that us few that do spend the money are supporting video games in general...... otherwise we all would still be playing ATARI

What tends to be forgotten in the PC VS console debate is that console hardware comes from PC in general. Console hardware is a loss leader and thus you need the PC to pay for the hardware. That being the case as long as the hardware market is like this I don't see how PC gaming is ever going to die. Plus there a lot of PC's out there, even if you just count game grade machines.

Such a worthwhile debate, I've never seen a PC vs. Console debate before and I'm sure that this thread will help shape the future for all of gaming kind.

</sarcasm>

As a PC Gamer for 21 years, I saw screw PC gaming. I'm not going back :) I even have my Xbox hooked up to my dual monitor here :D Everyone can make up excuses for why one is better than the other, but the majority of the public is moving to consoles, so you're SOL. Adapt or learn to program.

I've been an avid PC gamer since 1994, I'm 34 years old, the industry is at a cross roads. I for one don't want to see companies programming a game for PC technology with console controls. Its not a matter of "Adapt or learn to program"... I have been supporting the industry for years..... its a matter of getting back to our roots... not trying to conform to what's popular right now!

To say that the majority of the public is moving to consoles is ridiculous. Is that suppose to be some kinda point? Does that mean that it must be in our best interest? The majority of the people were moving towards fascism in Germany, did that make it right?

Right and wrong are morality questions that are based upon a collective consciousness of society, so if the majority of people do go to Fascism then that does indeed make it right... but that's completely irrelevant to this discussion (Godwin's Law and Console Gaming? How did someone make that link!)

There is absolutely no motivation for any company to return to their roots. The roots sucked (except Sierra and Interplay games). It used to be a field of 20-30 million avid PC gamers. Now, it's 150-175 million console gamers and 50-60 million avid PC gamers. (Numbers pulled out of ass, but concept is there). Developers need a paycheck to put food on their table and a roof over their head. Therefore, when it comes a question of selling 100 mil copies of a console game or 5 mil of a PC game, they're going to take the one that lets them afford to send their kids to school.

There are still a number of dedicated PC shops that continue out of love or misplaced duty, but they do so knowing that they're going to sell less product. Eventually, they all start running short and looking for a buyer, who will inevitably ask them to port more products to the console.

There will not be a resurgence of PC gaming because of the factions. On one side are gamers that don't like simplified controls, and on the other are developers that are trying to pay their mortgage.

IMO, of course.

I see the PS4/720 being released with equivalent hardware to what you can buy for a PC. Meaning, a $400 console next gen will equal the performance of a $400 computer. PC technology is coming down in prices so much that the consoles will be equal which is something never been able to be achieved before. Even the current consoles are pretty close to PC's except for memory.

As much as people have predicted the end of PC gaming, doesn't it still make about $1 billion a year? And what about the money generated from PC gaming on the hardware end? And what about the fact the hardware in consoles comes from PC's? And what about the Xbox which is a PC?

It just doesn't make sense that PC gaming is going away anytime soon. I make the point over and over and over. As long as console hardware COMES from PC's, there will be games on the PC. Plain and simple.

Huh? Current consoles equal to PC's? On the low end sure. On the high end? No way.

I understand that... and that's my argument..... People don't know or understand the advantages of PC gaming. Its all about the dollar sign!

They need to be educated... and it starts with us!

You just made my point for me..... PC gaming is ,again, what drives gaming development.... if games were programmed for console than we would still be playing ATARI..... Games need to be developed for the PC and then port'd to the console, not the other way around!

it's a fact though that companies are going to do what makes them the most money. At this point that happens to be consoles. You consider yourself a serious gamer. what you have to understand about that, is that you are part of the severe minority. You can't expect devs in this competative of a market to not take advantage of all of their resources. It's not up to companies to cater to you, because they don't have to. Coding games from scratch for the PC is so much more expensive than for consoles. So they use what they already deveolped and break that down into what they can and can't use.
It's not right or wrong, it's just how it is. You're taking this way to personally. I have been a computer gamer for a long while now and owned a couple of consoles. As I grow older consoles just suit my lifestyle better. I set aside one night per week to play BF2 with friends online, however I still find myself playing my consoles more.

the PC isn't dead becuase it drives development, both hardware and software. What probably is dead is pc exclusive titles, and games developed for the pc first.

Yet....... we are seeing XBOX and PS and NES exclusive titles....... "Fable 2" "Resistance Retribution" and so on......

Where are the PC exclusives...... MAN! everyone is missing my point!

Did I ever say a controller was better? No...

Because they are outdated...?

QFT. Guys, you're talking about BILLIONS in both hardware and software revenue on the PC, and that hardware, which is a loss leader on the console side, is used in consoles. I simply don't understand why people are ignoring these facts and say something silly like PC gaming is dead when clearly it serves an important role in the console market. What would happen to the cost of consoles if the consoles had to pay for the hardware development? PC's subsidize the cost of consoles.

Well, not exactly. Big studio titles, sure, but there are plenty of indie only titles on the PC.

The point isn't that PC gaming is dead....... THE POINT IS!.... that PC games are being programed for consoles first.... and playing them on the PC is an afterthought!....... Oh how many games have i patched.... and then repatched.... and then repatched!

Games that were AWSOME!
Half Life (the complete series)
System Shock (the complete series)
Doom
Hexen
Neverwiter Nights (the complete series)
Mirrors Edge
Portal
and many many more.....

Come on MAN!

Yes...but what do awesome games have to do with the point (wait, what point) you are trying to make?

hehehe.... Nice Gritarrasdeamor........ My point is that i want more game like the ones that i pointed out above..... but we are going to continue to get games like:
Gothic
Witcher
Mass Effect
Assassins Creed

If we dont speek up!

PC Game is not dead, and it will never be..

And no, Console games is not taking over PC Games..

not matter how much console-boy want to make a change there, it will not happen ...

PC Game seem to be decrease for the recent date, but think in the other way, MMORPG just start rising up among the PC Industry, and they are taking over with a huge numbers of them...
Just take a look in Asia, almost 90% of players are playing MMO instead a normal PC Game that only have single player...

Same thing apply to console, just like Xbox Live.....

Multiplayer is the Future....

Mass Effect was good though.
What about Crysis, any source game, RTS games (95%), etc. that are only on PC or made for PC then ported?

Okay... Okay... there is the exception... like Crysis..... but how long before there are no more exceptions?

Since consoles are the way to go I need some help. Which is better, Xbox 360 or PS3? Plus I need links to some good couches.

HAHHAHAA!!!!!!.... this is the wrong post for that question... this post is about why consoles suck so much.......

BUY A PC..... I'll even help you price one......

Consoles are just more popular, convenient, less expensive, and less complicated than pc gaming.
