i may have missed previous posts.. could you explain what mobos price cuts are around the corner and which AMD proc? thanks a lot!

You can't expect him to provide any meaningful information, he's an intel shill. There are some pricecut threads in the forum right now.

Ah well I just bought myself a 4400+ x2 so I am set for 2 years so this Conroe crap is not something I am worring about.

Anyway i hear the Conroe has 5 layers of DRM protection, can only run data that's been encrypted at 128bit with a certified liscense from George Bush and has a micro antenna on it that can phone home to NSA on what your doing with your pc.

Intel's own CEO expects their profits to decrease this year approximately 33%, and their stock keeps falling. Yeah. 2005 was a banner year.

Poor execution by Intel or its partners is the main cause today's problems.

Conroe is based directly off the Dothan, which is based on the Banias, which was based loosely on the P3. It was designed, as Obi_kwiet said, by Intel's Israeli team.

What exactly does Conroe share with Dothan ? Enlighten us. ;)

Conroe uses a 14-stage pipeline, considerably down from the 30 used in the current Pentium 4. This cuts into the maximum possible clock frequency, but as we've noted, Intel's new mantra is performance and efficiency. Intel Core is a new design from the ground up,
so it is a new design!
but has taken many of the ideas originally developed for Banias/Dothan mobile processor architecture, including the cache architecture and technologies used for power management.

I think the best we can say that it is partially related to the Banias, but not a 100% successor.

This is exactly how it was 4 years ago with company A vs company B. And so on for ever year. Never ending brawl that will last forever. One company comes out with better cpu another company counters and so on. It never lasts long. One wins over the other and vice versa. Its useless.

It will soon be AMD's turn to return the favor then intel then amd until the end of time... Why do ppl act like its the end of the world each time??? This crap is stupid. Act like a CPU is a god or something. PPL stop with the funny topics. Its always the same every year. Or when something new comes out OMG AMD got wooped. Then OMG... Ahhhh Intel got its ass beat again. Its Impossible to recover from that blow. Then another counter by Intel. Oh no AMD comes back with another CPU that blew intel away. What are we going to do OMG switch systems every time something better comes out. YEAH See the retarted-ness of this?

Its a childish game some just like to play. Sometimes I just like to push buttions. Ma hahahaha!!!

What if AMD doesn't return the favour till , hmmm , after the 2010-2012 timeframe ? :D

Lots of things can happen. Playing "what if" is pointless. What if the world spins off its axis before then? What if there is an earthquake and Intel or AMD are wiped off the map? What if you sneeze and blow your brains out your nose? Get the picture?

NAHUH I heard it from a friend of a friend who works at intel. This guy is my intel at .....Intel. He also mentioned the cpu is actually the size of a post card that is how it's able to run so cool because it disipates the heat across the whole heatspreader. Also the core is made out of aluminum foil so it can be used for a protective cover incase the aliens come. Oh and last it will make steam engine noises so while your using it will others think you got some power under that hood.

For AMD it would suck since all its manufacuring is concentrated in one place... ;)

Reallisticaly speaking I expect the following scenario :

-Conroe leads firmly till K8L
-neck in neck with K8L until 45nm Conroe arrives and leaps forward
-6 months after that we have Nehalem ( brand new microarch , IMC , CSI )
-12 months later we have Nehalem C , 32nm
-6 months later we have Gilo , brand new microarch developed in Israel
and we're in 2010 already ;)

I can't believe some of you people, being AMD or Intel "!!!!!!s". I'm pretttyyy sure the company isn't a "fan" of its customers, in fact im pretty sure they don't give a shit what happens to you unless you buy their chips, but you're still "rooting" for your company to win in their market? *shrugs*

It seems odd to me, to root for a company...but whatever floats your boat I guess...

LOL, im loving this thread.

I agree with all the people who say "Why do people think this is the end of the world." Intel is going to have the lead, and then AMD will take it back in a year or two. What will eventually happen, a third company will sneak in and take the market and either take AMD or Intel down. This of course wont be for many many years to come.

those old bumbling fools practically built AMD considering that AMD used intel's architecture to pretty much jump up their company. don't talk shit about intel engineers as they're good enough to work on 65nm, 45nm, and 32nm processing while AMD's engineers can only dream to get their hands on a conroe and use their cheap microscopes to attempt to duplicate the technology.

Wrong Wrong Wrong. 1st of all AMD's processes and arcs are way ahead of intel, been ahead for 3 years. They use the same arc until K8L. Duo2 is a FINALLY happening cus it took Intel 3 years to catch up. You know nothing of fab processes. CMOS are used with intel cpus and are cheap, make hotter slower cpus that light up your electric bill until netburst died. In other words low quality made with low quality silicon to wafer processes. Duo2 is a merical at best with the still crappy processes. Intel only has 2 90nm and 65nm fabs just like AMD. Yes Fab30 and Fab36 are making 65nm CPU's if ya keep up with the news you would know. AMD uses DSL and SOI processes to make more expencive time consumingly made CPU's that get better energy useage MHZ per watt and all out more performance and cooler running CPU's AMD's use high quality strained silicon that takes 2 times longer to make in a wafer. AMD's Sram uses 45nm processes btw. Also with the new e-SiGe and SMT processes comming from AMD its really killer stuff. Intel can't do these processes. AMD perfected 90nm tech, Intel could berly keep up even on 65nm's with AMD agenst superior 90nm tech from AMD. Made intels processes look like a joke because the way how intel does 65nm's is just low quality. It doesn't even match the kind of 90nm processes AMD does. Just because its a lower process number doesn't mean its better. Its not as simple as that. AMD stayed with 90nm's longer because they could still get more out of it as it imporved and it proved to be superior then intels current processes even now. IBM even makes better 65nm fab processes then intel.

AMD and intel anounced awile back they both could do 65nm's and 45nm's. None can do 32nm processes yet or is in experimentation. AMD has in one year came from 130nm to 90nm and soon to 65nm faster then intel dreamed of. 65nm cpus are being made as we speak from AMD. Just takes awile to make the cpus, they have no problem making them. Understand AMD is 1/10th the size of intel but it can compete big time. And AMD's fab processes take 2 times longer because they are so much more advanced and is time consuming. AMD can match and out perform a company 10 times bigger then them really says something, some ppl are just too blind to see AMD is superior and a great company. That says alot. SO quote don't talk about AMD like you know them. Arc wise, intel actouly copied off of AMD's arc in sertent things so it performs like a athlon 64 but put 32 or so pipes into Duo2 128-bit wide, its just a SSE monster. But in the news somebody quoted it was like a beefed up athlon 64. It has similar FPU's and ALU's. The 32 short pipes give it the CPC advantage over AMD. And the insane amount of shared L2 just make it seem faster at 256bit. More SSE units and other instructions is what makes Duo2 so great. But it has flaws like any CPU and limits that will be surpassed not too long from now. But still 4 generations behind. Just because something outperforms something by afew % doesn't mean its any better then the compitition. And your hardly going to tell the difference in speed. Between CPU A and CPU B. This is the most silly thing I ever heard. Don't bother responding cus I'll prob never see it. Where did you get this idea Intel was more Advanced then AMD?

Don't get all excited just because of Duo2 cus every year or so this happens with the wars. Again i say company A beats company B then counters and so on like a broken record. For afew months a new product will seem unbeatable then be old news the next new thing that comes out cus it blows away the previous PCU by afew %. Why can't we all just stop the sillyness. Each time somebody buys a new comp thats the badest thing out there, the next month later its just yesterdays news.

lol, didnt I already say that drugs arnt good for you? 33 percent drop in profit? LMFAO :p

" Intel's results mostly met analysts' expectations, yet the company's outlook disappointed. Intel said it expects between $8bn and $8.6bn in revenues during the current quarter, below the $8.9bn analysts had hoped for.

The second half of the year would be a time for Intel to "reset" its business, said chief executive Paul Otellini, on a conference call with analysts.

Intel has a slew of new products built on its new, low-powered chip architecture lined up for release in the second half. Otellini said that it would announce its new dual-core desktop processor, dubbed Conroe, and mobile processor, Merom, during the third quarter.

Intel is expecting "some share gain in the second half of the year because of the better produce line up," said Intel CFO Andy Bryant, on the call.

In the meantime, it seems some customers are holding back on major purchases, causing a slowdown in demand for Intel processors.

For the most recent quarter, Santa Clara, California-based Intel posted a profit of $1.35bn, or 23 cents a share, down from $2.18bn, or 35 cents, a year ago. Analysts had hoped for earnings on average of 22 cents.

Revenue during the quarter fell 5% to $8.94bn from $9.43bn a year ago. "

Wow, Serge, you should probably stop hanging out at that website you linked too... its horribly biased and full of false information and utterly inane claims, such that Conroe is a stop-gap solution while 4x4 is here for the long term? Yeah, right. 4x4 is nothing more than a dual CPU system, I can buy one right now with Opterons for HALF the price, since it doesnt require FX chips.

Conroe will result in lower prices... for AMD

As if this is going to keep massive amounts of people from buying Conroe! AMD is going to lower prices the day after Conroe is launched to try and soften the blow that Conroe is expected to give. I am all for this, as lower prices always benefit the consumer in the end. Bring on the price wars!

According to memos recently obtained by DailyTech, AMD will drastically cut prices on its desktop processors after the July 23rd release of Intel’s Core 2 Duo Conroe processors.

The Test
In case we weren't clear: we acquired, built, installed and tested these two test systems entirely on our own and without the help of Intel.

So maybe even Blind Followers of AMD can stop complainning about Canned tests LOL!
Tech-report, 2CPU, Fugger, Victor Wang, Coolater and others did hands on as well. Many of these guys broke past records with Athlon Processors of all kinds.

Only someone on Crack or Very drunk thinks Dell will drop Intel and go completely AMD, especially NOW LOL!

3 years ahead huh? and when did AMD get that 65nm plant going? Where is the 65nm AMD X-2? I must be blind or something, but i don't see ANY 65nm processors. Lmfao. this isn't Nvidia against Ati. tech doesn't come out in 4 months. btw, I still don't understand why you believe AMD's tech is 3 years ahead. If it's three years ahead, they should be pwning the 955XE, the 965XE by atleast 25%. I'm not sure I see that. Hmm.. and what did you think of the E6600 benches against an FX-62? I swear, that's incredible for a company who's 3 years ahead in tech, FX-62 only got beat by 25 - 50 percent?! =O, wow, way to go.

by a brand new chip that isn't out yet vs a core that is essentially identical to the original K8 plus an extra core. so depending on how you see it, intel has just cought up, 3 years later, which put amd 3 years ahead all this time, and in about a month, amd will be however far behind until they catch up again? :D

btw.. amd's fab tech is a lot cooler than many give credit for

Hmmm, with all the bitching at Serge, this little gem appears to have been overlooked.

Discuss, if you all can stop bitching at each other for a bit.

I am pretty sure Chris meant to say 300mm wafer and 65nm system up and running.

I thought it was interesting but Chris never said he seen 65NM cpu's being fabbed. If amd was fabbing they would have showed it off. So until we see produvtion Es chips Its still a long way off . It is interesting none the less.

tis is the war like nvidia and ati

geforce 4 and fx series did not do shit compared to ati`s similar series

now look ati and nvidia, nvidia is winning imo
