just about to put together a first build and this f******* conroe had to come out. i know it;s good and i want one but it has to be so g**d*** expensive. now for my computer i'm gonna use either the asus P5b or gigabyte p965 or something that is Conroe compatible. i don;t know if i want to use conroe right away. if i do it has to be E6300 or i could get a Pentium D 960 for now and upgrade later. i do a lot of CAD and video editing and some game. E6300 (1.86ghz) or PD 960 (3.6 ghz) which one should i get? their prices are hopefully are gonna be the same when conroe comes out. still i'm running on a thousand dollar budget.

well it depends what you are going to do with it. Apparently if you plan to game any proc would work as well as another one as long as get a good video card.
 
Aw c'mon, where's the Conroe love? Either way, you have Conroe to thank for the cheaper PDs and Athlons we will see shortly. If you can swing it, and I'm sure everyone else will tell you the same thing, go for the E6300. Without a doubt it will perform better than the 3.6 PD. Even at 1.86 Ghz, it is performing up there with the 2.4Ghz Athlon. If you can't fork over the dough for a Conroe chip, I would suggest taking a look at the PD 805 or 915 when it comes out.
 
I'd get the E6300 myself in your shoes. No sense in spending money on Netburst with something better out...if only because it runs at a lower temperature.

i like that one. still havent decided but i guess i have to see the final pricing and see which one fit my budget better. just wish i had more money and get the best of every possible hardware. donations are welcome everyone!!! :p
 
If you need a computer now then you only have one choice (the PD). Just try the components to upgrade to a C2D later. Despite what Intel is saying it could take a while to get a Conroe via retail.

LMFAO. hahahaaahaha. hilarious. Anyway, the Conroe E6300 will do well. Probably a substantial percentage better than the PD960 stock for the apps you're using (cad, etc...). Btw, I'd recommend a Gigabyte DS3 board (it's 150 on newegg and overclocks nicely if you ever decide to overclock that processor).
