Conroe mATX mobo out....

What's the word on other mobo's supporting it coming soon for mATX?
 
So? That's normally what speeds SLI operates on. That's 4000MB/s which is nearly twice what AGP provides. More than enough! 16x is just there for future proofing.
 
Brain fart, thought for some reason the slots were different physically :D.
 
Well, even if it does work, you'd still have to use single slot cooling, though...
 
Three questions:

1) Do you NEED ECC memory to use this board (no, right?)

2) Does this board have good overclocking options?

3) Can the board be used with SLI/Crossfire with hacked drivers?

Couldn't care less :D. I don't go for top-end video cards normally anyway, I'm on a 7900GT right now. Being able to toss in another 7900GT or go SLI with the next-gen "high-end budget" cards would be sweet :D.

nope, nope, and maybe. but no, because those x8 slots wont fit an x16 video card. those are physically x8 slots...

Pfft that's what I thought on the slots but someone above said otherwise haha :eek: ! So, when do people think a good board will come?
 
Good point... so what the hell good are they for?? :confused: I don't even think there are SCSI controllers designed for PCI-E yet. Edit: I just checked Adaptec's site so I doubt it.

LSI makes a PCIe x8/x4 SCSI card, I'm waiting to get two in with some Dell servers. Everythings moving away from PCIx to PCIe on the server side. Atleast the 9G Dells are as are well as the upcoming HPs. LSI 320-2E

People have also modded the Dell SC430s x8 slot to accept a x16 video card, you just need to dremel out one of the plastic breaks in the slot.
 
though with the motherboard posted above the southbridge(?) heatsink is directly behind the 2 8x PCIe slots and as such the gfx card (even with the end of the slot modded out) would not seat correctly as it would touch the heatsink. At least that is how it appears to me.
 
Okay, I want to see someone remove the southbridge heatsink, dremel out the plastic backing and use some hacked drivers to get this working in SLI. That would be hardcore :cool:

IIRC, all the new Intel chipsets will be able to work with Crossfire. However, SLI will only work on SLI nforce boards released for Intels processors, minus workarounds that is. I believe its because something in Nvidia's drivers prohibit SLI working on anything except an nForce chipset. Although someone with far greater knowledge on this subject will have to confirm this.

Ofcourse it really doesn't matter seeing as how the pci-e slots are x8 and not x16 and I'm not aware of any x8 ATI cards that are crossfire compatiable.
 
seeing as how long it took for someone (evga) to come out with an matx sli board, don't bet on seeing one for conroe at least not this year... looks like I'll have to wait for a dx10 dual gpu card. matx crowds are always the last to get consideration.
 
It seems as though things have picked up a lot lately though and with nforce5, am2, and conroe all released or on the horizon I don't see a more perfect time for there to be a rush of xfire or sli boards in mATX form.
