I know we discussed this before . But things have changed. So do you guys think DEll is going to get all these cores on release. Looks like Intel is targeting the highend retail market to me. Whats your thoughts on this

In Q3 Intel will supply 10% of its procs as Core Arch ( Woodcrest and Conroe ).

That is around 4 million CPUs ...I'm pretty sure you will be able to get one as everyone else ...

Ya . but from I read the first Conroe's released will be the big buck EE model . I doubt Dell will get All these. Looks like intel is going after the guys that can't wait with the high $$$ model Which is ok in my book . But it is strange that there doing this . Unless its as stated above Woodcrest is coming out first so intel is using that die first. The 3GHz model .

I've said it before, I think it might be a while before we get our hands on non-XE Conroes.
In the beginning, I'm sure Dell, Alienware, and all the other custom builders will be offering SLI/Crossfire Conroe XE systems for about $4,000-5,000.

Something that concerns me is what happened when Intel released the original 3.2 EE. It was released to OEMs in November of 2003 to fight the FX-51. However, it wasn't available as a retail CPU in any significant quantity until 2 months later (Januray 2004), IIRC.

Well the Gallatin is quite abit different from the normal Northwood with it's 2MB of LV3 cache.

If past Intel architecture launches is something to go on, with both AMD's and Intel sides.

I expect the Conroe XE E8xxx 3.33GHZ and the Conroe E6700 2.66GHZ editions first. Then the E6600, E6400, E6300 a tad later in Q3.

And Conroe is quite a bit different than Netburst or Yonah

I think you're right, but the big question is, will Dell and etc. gobble all of them up before we can buy them in retail?

But my point is that Gallatin is only slated for the extreme end and that is all. For Conroe there will be mid range variants based on the same core. So I don't expect supplies to be a major issue here as this Core has to have been in volume production.

IMHO, the launch will see just what you said but/plus with E6600 and E6400 as well. The 6300, E4xxx models are what will launch later. After seeing those overclocked results, E6600 will not cause anyone to jump the E8xxx series ship IMHO.

Here's why. Intel was doing better in the past, even when Folks in this market thought AMD had better processors, the whole market was UP! Intel and AMD sold all almost all of the processors they could make. Intel had the luxury of holding back some slower models to sell faster ones. They even gained market back from AMD the last time they held back slower Processors. Even PressHott kept sales flat or no change market share for Intel.

Now, Intel doesn't have the Luxury to hold anything back, they have to get stuff people want out there and out there like yesterday. Sure there are a few models that are being held back but not the ones they listed so far. Prescott Hurt Intel very badly. So bad that the much nicer Presler still might be seen as nothing but a Prescott :D AMD went through this same thing with the last hot-buggy Thunderbirds and first TBreads.

I am going to have to disagree with that, I am hoping by all means that the E6300/E6400 and E6600 are launched as well but I am not keeping my hopes up on that. I am not expecting anything more then E6700 and E8xxx so I won't be disappointed.

There is always a market for those 1000US processors. Even if there is a great price/performance varaints way below. The same can be said with the S939 Athlon 64 3700+ and Athlon FX 57. Or the soon to be released Socket AM2 Athlon 64x2 4000+ and Athlon FX 62. There is always people with the monetary funds who want the absolute best at a given time frame regardless if it is sensible in our eyes or not. The E8xxx will be a beast a shining beacon of light to cast a warm glow on the rest of the product line.

We call these folks "the ones with more money than brains". Now this croud would buy the most expensive Conroe EE no matter what else shipped. That market is smaller than the Watercooling extreme overlclocking market IMHO. It has nothing to do with Hope on my part. Intel isn't burning up the sales charts right now and if their other products were selling well, I'd agree with the limited Launch opinion. That's not the case, so I don't. Intel normally launches what it announces to VARs. That was 4 models and IMHO, that's what Intel will ship, those four models. Now if during the Second Quarter Presler and Dothan sales picks up, then we might see a scaled back launch.

Not even talked about are a whole line of Cheap 4xxx models.
1.6GHz
1.8GHz
2.0GHz
These ship with 2MB L2 and 800MHz FSB and 1.66 and 1.83 with 1066MHz FSB. Yes, there are plenty of processors to hold back but IMHO, the four that were announced aren't it. But Intel has done dumber things before, so you might be right  ( at Intel, not you)

Donnie on the all other EE dies I would agree but on Conroe having a unlocked multiplier could really be worth the$$$$$

This is true. The insanely high FSB speeds might make overclocking very motherboard limited in the near future. I will take my chances with an E6600 though :)

For those that don't believe Intel makes a good O/C board WRONG Fugger the little Intel fan-boy is using a stock Intel Bad Ass M/B

Beggars cant be choosers tho. ;) I have not seen anything else that can run that chip as of right now.

I will most likely be getting the XE part. My last 2 CPU's were XE parts why change. Anyways, I love the completely unlocked multiplier.

If retail Conroes and Meroms have the FSB limit that some of the ES have now, don't bank on extreme overclocks. Fugger isn't the only one on XS that has a Conroe/Merom, and some users are finding it hard to get above 250, and for some that is a lost cause :p.

I'm excited to see Conroe at retail though...

That's is only perspective on the issue, and without sales figures on the Extreme Edition, that is purely assumption on your part.

I don't know, if Intel wants to pull off a full launch then this is what I believe they should do.

Extreme Edition E8xxx 999US

E6700 530US 2.66/4MB
E6600 316US 2.40/4MB
E6400 241US 2.16/2MB
E6300 209US 1.83/2MB

Which is the original roadmap, with correct pricing. 5 processors would be a full luanch on the level of the Yonah, and Preslers.

E4200 1.6GHZ and it's derivatives if there are any mind you, as this could be just a 1 model thing like the 805 or soon to be 925.

The 805 and 925 can take the low end Dual Core with the E4200 being slightly above that.

To me there is no room at all for the 1.8GHZ/800FSB/2MB, or 2.0GHZ/800FSB/2MB, what for? they already have the E6300/6400 for that. Not to mention they are not mention in any roadmaps that are realistic.

Using past Intel pricing tiers, as a guideline this is what I propose Intel does.

In Q4 launch the E6800 2.93/4MB at 637US, drop the E6700 to 423US. Leave the rest as they are.

To me the E4x00 and E6x00 line should not overlap at all. Leaving only the E4200 keeps that market seperation intact.

By the time Intel ships the E6900 if there is to be one mind you the Extreme Edtion should minimum be extended to 3.66GHZ to keep at least a semi decent barrier between the mainstream and enthusiast lines.

True that but Fugger couldn'y make the BADass work at all at first . Must got new M/B

Those other limeted O/C were done with the Aopen 975 M/B's with yonah and the guys didn't know that they had to move a jumper. Thats my take on it . Also Fugger has the A1 core I believe cooler has the BO stepping (from my memory)
