Connecting Projector to Laptop

I have a presentation at school on tuesday and was just wondering if there is anything that I would have to do befor hand to connect a Laptop to a Projector. Is it just as simple as plug it in and open up the power point?
 
projectors are just a like a regular monitor..

just plug it into the VGA port and then set your laptaop to display to its VGA port..
