Connecting 5.1 Surround System

I've heard that having a sound card can improve frame rates from taking the sound rendering off the mother board so I decided to try it out less expensive card The problem is that
I'm not going to spend 70 to 100 dollars on a sound card with a 100 dollar 5.1 system.I also read alot of reviews on sound cards,and hopefully came up with a cheaper sound card solution to suit my needs.It seems alot of the cheaper sound cards have crummy support,which goes with the territory.I found this card for 32 dollars with shipping.It seems to have little or no issues,good driver support,and gets the job done.I hope thats the case.If not,then I'm back to onboard audio.

I will get rid of the drivers for the onboard audio before installing the sound card,and disable onboard sound in bios.I have a question about wiring.I have the HD Audio from my case wiring hooked up to the audio header on the motherboard.I want to leave this hooked up so I can use my front audio connections on the case.Will installing this sound card affect other audio connections? This sound card has AUX IN and CD IN headers on the circuit board.I'm wondering if I should switch my HD Audio connection (case wiring to motherboard) to AUX IN on sound card.I cant find anything in the manual that is helpful.

That's the major problem with your whole plan: A sound card these days do NOT improve FPS that much these days. We're talking less than half of a half a percent. What you heard was true 5-6 years ago with relatively slow CPUs and relatively low quality audio. However over the past few years, CPU power has increased and so has the quality of onboard sound. As such, there's very very very little of a performance increase from getting a sound card. So in other words, if you're looking for a FPS increase, don't waste that $32 or even $100 for a sound card.

However if you want higher quality audio, then yes, those $70 cards are pretty much the preferred choice.
