Computer starts and crashes after login

So today i took an old pc i have over to a friends house to give it to him.
Hooked everything up, the pc seemed fine on start up but the "start windows normally screen" pop ups, we get to the login screen and seconds after the computer instantly powers off, sometimes it crashes before the login. The computer just powers right off. Sometimes there is a quick blue error screen before the pc turns off.

Its for sure not the psu, gpu, or harddrive. any ideas?
 
How did you determine that "its for sure not the psu, gpu, or harddrive."?
 
does it do this at your house, too? if it powers off, then there is most likely a hardware issue. the first guess is psu, but if you say it's not the psu, then it's the power going to the psu, or the mobo. is the electrical outlet properly grounded?

does the pc remain on when using a live cd? if not, disconnect the HDD and try again. report results.

can you boot into safemode? if so, how long does it remain powered on?

there could be something shorting out inside the case. did you do a barebones bench test? (see troubleshooting guide sticky)

my friend was using the graphics card in his pc, and the psu and hd are from his pc.
so they were all working before we put them into the pc im giving him.
 
Did you perform a fresh installation of windows? If the system the disk was pulled from had a SATA controller set to AHCI mode and the latter system did not, that will cause windows to fail. What are the specs of the two machines, or more accurately, what are the two different motherboards being used?

UPDATE: My friend is saying that computer is now booting off seconds after its turned on, not even getting to the login screen anymore.

As far as his pc goes, i have no idea. Just some generic pc, besides the gpu i gave him the only things he upgraded was his psu and ram.

As far as the pc i gave him it was a evga 680i mobo lg775, a Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz, 8800gts.
