I've been having quite a few problems lately so I'm going to present my situation and see if anybody has any input since I am completely clueless.

I have had a Static type of noise through my speakers and headphones for about a month now. The significance of it going through both is that their both their own audio devices. So it's not just the speakers going bad. It gets better and worse. Right now I'm listening to the Pixies at full blast and it sounds great. I just reformated a week ago to try and get rid of some problems, but they're still here, I suppose some part of my hardware is going bad.

Another problem that occures sometimes is while listening to music or watching any video, my computer will lock up and there will be a very loud, very high pitched ring. After the restart, sometimes it takes a long time to boot. I don't know what's causing this.

Most of these problems ironicly started after I started using my iPod. I don't know if it's related in any way.

I need to figure out what's bad and stop all this stuff from ever happening again.

Did you try updating your soundcard drivers? Lowering sound card acceleration? If you have a pci sound card and an onboard one did you make sure to disable the onboard? If its not onboard have you tryed moving it a slot or two away from its current slot?

Does it only do it in one type of format or one type of player? (example crackles in windows media player but not real player)

yes, I tried updating sound drivers. It's an Audigy2. I have not tried lowering acceleration. The onboard sound has always been disabled. I have not tried to move it. I'm not entirely sure about it crackling in different players. I'll get back to you on that.

Do you suggest I try the 2 ideas you stated that I haven't yet done?

Did you update ALL of your drivers? Video as well? Most likely I'm guessing bad drivers somewhere.

updated windows, cat3.9, latest audigy2 drivers, bios, motherboard chipset drivers..

Edit: while making this post, my computer froze. I was updating my media library in winamp.

Disable your sound card and see if it still locks up, try to narrow it down first. If it turns out to be your sound card (which i think it is) There could be a number of things to try

ok, I'm on it.

I disabled my soundcard and yes, it did still lockup after about 20 minutes of media playing.

Try pulling the soundcard and use the onboard sound. It may sound like shit in comparison but it should only be temporary to see if that is you problem.

Another thing you could do, is un-install whatever iPod software that you may have installed. I've never messed with an iPod so I have no clue what may need to be installed or not.

Make sure you do each one of these suggestions seperately to isolate what the problem might be.

Seeing you're in Rolla, it would almost be easier for me to drive there and fix your stuff for you, but alas, my kid is sick and I can't go anywhere. And I don't know any of the people going to Rolla anymore so I can't just send anyone over to you.

yea, ok. Now when I try to even update the ipod through itunes, immediate freezage.. wtf.

I tried reinstalling all the software and drivers and stuff, my computer did the same freeze while reinstalling.

I guess I'll try a repair.

Ok, reformated my computer last night after a lot of frusteration.

Installed sp1, all the windows updates, cat3.9, nforce stuff, sound drivers, and ipod drivers. I thought everything was going ok until I put on my headphones today and played some counterstrike. The game froze. Right before it froze, all the noise I was getting was the same crackling static. Since these headphones are usb and another audio device, the sound card is NOT bad.. (yippie)..

Please help.. I don't know what to do and I'm almost ready to throw my 3.5k$ pc out the window.

one thing to do with sb cards, is to make sure the card is in the last available pci slot as far away from any other expansion cards as possible.

have you run memtest?

have you checked the voltages on your power supply?
