well lately my comp isn't working right especially with the internet. Pages won't load, when i tryed to upload a pic to cardomain it doesnt work. Computer is slow, ran spybot, avg, and now defraging. What should I do?

Disk Cleanup? Defrag? what is your internet connection speed?

do you have all your windows updates ?

just ran avg again and it came up with downloader.wintrim.bf
it infected ia.dll in the sys32 folder in windows
moved to virus vault but a few files it said could not be opened
dunno if it helps but zonealarm kept asking me to let viewmnger access the internet but i said no, maybe that helped stop the spread of the virus?

if i do reformat will the desktop icons still be on the desktop after?

Perhaps it's time to call in a friend to do it for you. I am not saying this to be an ass. It's just that when someone asks a question like that, I can almost guarantee there will be data lost.

Find someone to back up your important data and format. Anytime there is a hint of virus corrupting the OS its a good time to reinstall :)

yo just cuz i asked that question doesn't mean i dont know what i am doing. i built the computer and i kno more about them then anyone i kno. i just didn't kno, now i do because i did the reformat. it runs much better now. but thanks for the help cr4n3, all the important stuff is on the 200 "backup"drive

ok well the format fixed the slow problem but now the internet isnt working right. i mean i can go on to site but if i check my email or tryto download aim, it doesn't work. it times out and says the page cannot be displayed. any help?

yeah that reformat question was suspicious of a noob, but never fear, you seemed to do alright...

Anyway, what kind of service do you have? Comcast? DSL?

format again. j/k :D

did you try doing windows updates with the firewall off? shut the firewall down completely and try again. maybe you accidently blocked something that needs to get out.

You should completely delete the partions and recreate them. Rebuild the master boot record reformat then install your os. Have the back updrive disconnected for now. After your done connect the back up and scan it for viruses as well

Well, when you ask a question like that about the icons, your pretty much telling us you don't know what your doing. I spent 5 years doing help desk related work and you learn very quickly how to judge someone's knowledge. If I was wrong, I apologize, but seriously....when you ask something like that, you can't be suprised we thought you to be a noob.

ok well i figured they were going to be gone, but me being lazy didnt wanna go into my computer every time i wanted to run a program. but why the hell would it work on lots of websites except for these. i need to check my mail to get the link for AVG

now there is another virus called worm/nocall.A on my D drive, but i can back anything up until i get a dvd burner. would the worm affect the internet?

Worms/viruses/spyware can make your system act really weird. It is possible that it is what is causing your problems.

I don't know anything specific about that particular one but there are sites out there that have information on specific worms and stuff.

Also, you can disconnect your second hard drive so the system does not see it so you won't have the problems you are experiencing if the OS drive is not currently infected. If it is also infected, I'd do a quick format and re-install on the OS with the second drive disconnected to make sure it doesn't infect the OS drive. That way you will be able to do what you need to without the problems.

Checked for spyware?
Also try to reinstall all internet settings. Just make sure that Windows exactly where its going to access the Internet. Just a thought, it may work.

Ok but why would keeping the old stuff on the D: drive fuck up the OS? Ive scanned numerous times to find viruses but haven't found any. I would love to back up the other hard drive but have about 30 cd-rs worth of movies and music. i wouldnt mind but it would be just a waste because i will just copy them back on the computer after the formats. any help would be greatly appreciated
