my computer has been randomly restarting all of a sudden. i have a thermaltake 500 watt PSU with the following components:

core2duo 6600
3 gig ddr2 corsair ram
3 sata hard drives
asus p5b motherboard
geforce 8800
dvd burner
4 total fans

is it that i have a bad PSU or do i just need a PSU with a larger wattage to accomodate all these components?

Im not much of a powersupply guy, but i do know that telling us the wattage isn't going to help much. Give us a link with a spec page, because things like rails and going to matter more.

Which Thermaltake PSU do you have? A good 500W PSU should be able to handle that.

It really doesn't sound like a PSU problem to me though. It could be the mobo or RAM.

Download Memtest+ V.170, unzip it, burn the ISO file to a CD, and then boot from it, just like you would do with the XP install CD. Let Memtest+ run for at least three hours on each stick of RAM separately. Go for a full 24 hours if you want to be completely sure that the RAM is not a problem. If you start seeing errors, than your RAM is bad.

Also, download Hitach's Drive Fitness Tool to rule out a problem with your hard drives.

As danny said exact specs would help others help you.

Is anything OCed and how are temps; ie cpu/gpu/ambient. If you havent done already, download realtemp/coretemp/speedfan and double check everything.

Its a start, let us know how it turns out.
