I have an evga 780i with a 500gig hdd and an e6600 with 2gb of gskill ram with a fsp 500watt psu.
i tried it with my 260gtx and the computer turned on and lasted a little bit then shut off.. i took card out and tried a 7900gs and did the same thing.. now this psu only has a 4pin connector while my mobo has an 8 pin connector for the cpu. is this the problem?

Nope, not really.

Ok, if you can, try that PSU with another system. In addition, try a different PSU with your system. Those two steps would rule out the PSU.

i'll try thats when i get home from work.. i noticed somtimes it stays on longer than others.

ok i actually borrowed a psu tester from work and it checks to be fine.. i was looking at the series of codes to see if it said anything and nothing bad... i cleared my cmos and then went into bios and same thing.

ok so i managed to get into bios and look at the system monitor and it was reaching the cpu was reaching 93c... thats my problem right there. :) thanks for the help.. stupid stock cooler now im waiting for aftermarket one.
