So, I have exhausted my brain along with almost everyone I know with this one. Maybe one of you have a solution to this issue.

A couple nights back my computer crashed after several devices locked up. Starting with my USB optical mouse. So, I went to reboot it and I received a nice surprise that my windows would lock up when its going through its load up screen.

After attempting a system restore roughly 10 times and watching it freeze I finally took the hint that something was seriously wrong and started swapping out parts, checking each part to make sure I haven't missed anything. After talking to a couple friends everyone was sure my HD had bit the dust.

Well, a good friend of mine suggested trying a live disc of windows but still had no luck. It goes through the load process to loading it into the memory, but once it goes to the " windows loading screen " it simply freezes on the status bar. So, I was seriously upset. Then the next suggestion was Linux.

I am seriously a believer in Linux now, its the only way my computer will run. I installed Ubuntu off a live disc, and the system was functional again. The problem I am having is now that I have read/write access to my HD windows still will not pass the initialize point of the setup, and the same thing with the live disc.

I've checked my hardware, I've flashed BIOS, and I have also went as far as trying a MBR restore tool via dos. Nothing is working at all. I Atleast when it comes to windows. I've also made sure to format with 70GB left to freespace, tried it as NTFS, and a couple other file system types. Nothing is working to put windows back on.

Only thing I have seen other than the freeze is " BOOT MGR missing, ctrl + alt+ del to restart "

Anyhow have any ideas, tips, possible solutions?

Um, try a new hard drive?
