Computer Haunted?

I keep hearing weird pops and creaks coming from my system. Not sure what it could be. They aren't really loud, and just seem to happen randomly. I hear it at night when I'm sleeping.

I just cleaned out the case, so I don't think there are any foreign objects. I have 4 of the really quiet Panaflo 80 mm fans, so that shouldn't be the problem. And it's a Lian-Li case.

ideas?

Is the computer on when it makes the sounds? It could be some sort of demon... do you have Doom3? :p
It could be something in the PSU, static discharge or somethinglike that.

1. screen saver w/sound?

2. Something arcing or shorting out?

btw, if you hear it when you're sleeping, you're dreaming it. <poke>

Yes, it's on. And I do have Doom3, only played it twice though.

That's what I was wondering. But it's a top of the line PSU: PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool Deluxe 425 Watt

Turn off your comp when you go to bed? ;)

I like to dl overnight. :) Plus I've gotten used to the fan noise. It's too quiet without it.

1) monitor is turned off

2) that's what I'm afraid of, but what?

the only solution is to kill yourself.. but first, mail the PC to me, so i can figure it out

It can happen, no matter what the PSU is. Is it dry weather over there? Sometimes the dry air can do that.

I had a case that IMO was haunted. One of my ex gfs was into whitchcraft, and i think she cursed/haunted my case after I broke up with her. No system I put into it would work correctly. I would transter everything to another case and it would work perfectly. The case was a Thermaltake XaserIII. I ended up selling it to a friend and it worked great for him.

As long as you send it back when you've fixed it ;)

Not really. How could I test this?

LoL...hmmm

haha vinny, I remember that guy
wanna know what happened to him? (PM me)

my old case named the pussy snapper is haunted it would always fall over on the ground.

is it a clunkty clunk clank or a clanky clank clunk

it never does it when I take it to the mechanic...............

a.get a louder fan to drown out the sounds.....
b. take apart the entire sytem.... mother board and all then rebuild see if it still does it...
c. sell it on ebay for more then you paid as a haunted computer... profit build new unhaunted system
d. live with it
e. try some of the other great advice in this thread it's 3:48 am and I was looking to reply to a real computer problem before going to sleep and "it makes a weird noise" didn't exactly qualify but might be front page material; e-mail this thread to kyle.

anyway goodnight and goodluck

well I tried switching outlets and UPSs, no luck

well tear it apart and rebuild this weekend

still plan to sell it, but I'll have to wait until the Shuttle SB81P is out

This is a known issue with Doom 3. You must either beat it on nightmare mode or perform the vo0do0 cleansing ritual...or the demons will persist. good luck!

My computer will occationally make a creaking noise when I am playing games. I found that as the computer heated up (and my room also) The little plastic fasteners that hold the window on the side of the tower creak. If you paid attention in Physics the window and the surrounding metal expand at a different rate. So even raising the temp a few degrees is enough in my case to make the window shift just a little making a creak.

You probably have the opposite problem. As the internal temp in your computer and the room cool at night, they contract and creak. I'd check for a slightly loose rivet around your window.

Thats my 2 cents.

did u try turning off the speakers?

Mine did this and it happened to be the soundcard. and the popping was comming from the speakers....

changed the sound card and it stopped...by the way mine was a Hercules MuseXL..
