Computer Freezing/Double Checking

I just want to run this by the experts. I have a new rig that I built and the reason I am double checking is because in my experience a video card or audio card could cause this however, I haven't upgraded either yet.

My problem, Win 7 x 64, everything is blazing fast and randomly and often the screen just freezes. Mouse doesn't move, nothing, I have to reboot.

What I did:

Pulled/Swapped all memory... no changes.
Pulled/Swapped CPU... no changes.
Reinstalled on a new HD instead of the SSD... no changes.

Ran in safe mode with networking... no freezing for 1 week. Now my logic was that in safe mode no drivers are loaded, so that would mean a video/audio driver problem, however my audio and video are on the MoBo. So it could be a bad Mobo as far as either video or audio, so hopefully upgrading these will fix the issue, but if I pay for those I want my rig to work. Am I on the right path or have I missed something?

As a side note, it ran perfect for 3-4 months before this started happening.

Try updating the BIOS to the latest version. Also, update the chipset, video, and audio drivers. Drivers and updates found here for the mobo in your sig. I hope this helps. If not you may have a bad board.

I upgraded the BIOS to the latest, but not the other drivers. Let me check those, thank you!

To the other responder, its a Corsair 850, my neighbor has the exact same one so we tried swapping, same result.

The audio, wireless, lan, video drivers were all up to date. The chipset was 1 behind, I just installed it. Hopefully that helps, if not hopefully if its the video (Which I suspect) and I get a card, the card and bus will be being used and not the onboard one which is maybe faulty.

When you try a video card make sure to turn off the on-board video in the bios.
 
I have the same problem with my p8z77v - lk. I thought it might be video related because it started right after a microsoft update that included a video drive update from Intel. I rolled every thing back and it happened less often but didn't go away.

I noticed it most often when I was streaming video on one screen while playing a game on the other screen. One day the audio on the video was very low so I shut off the sound on the game and my computer does not freeze up any more.

I have not reinstalled the Intel video update yet. But I might, just to see if the problem returns. At its worst it would lock up every few minutes.

Thanks all do that. I am caustiosly optimistic. I upgraded the chipset as mentioned above and it has been on since. It would not stay on longer than 5-10 minutes before. We shall see!

Mine also would lock up a LOT during streaming media.
