computer freezes questions?

i7 950 stock
6x2gb ddr3 1333mhz 1.64v
asus REIII
msi gtx580/radeon 3450
corsair 750 psu
win 7 ult.

now onto the problem, when playing videos usually HD videos.
Happens at both streaming and playing mp4/wmv files, also happened when watching tv thru WMC. the pc would freeze and a hard reboot would be needed.

I thought the problem was my shitty radeon 3450 card, but have since upgraded to a 580 and it still happens.

I cannot replicate the problem, it just happens randomly. about 2 times a week.
I tried having IBT/MSI Kombat/stream a 1080p video/play a mp4 file/playing a online flash game all at the same time and nothing.

I can bench with IBT/3dmark11/Aida64 with no problem at all. I can play all games at max settings all day. It seems to only happen when playing a video and is completely random.
 
do you have the newest drivers (for everything not just video card) for your system?

nah just that system was shutdown incorrectly ie lost of power basic crap.

i had the ram running at 1600 before and have now down it to 1333 to see if that was causing the problem. really confused because i can max out the system and everything but a little video can freeze it.

also temps on system are not the problem.
 
The only other thing I can think of is the PS.

I've had them do many things including the symptoms you describe.

Many seem to think the "green wire jump test" is an indication of a good PS but there are many more factors that make a PS non-faulty.

I'd be swapping the PS to eliminate it.
 
i doubt it is the psu, i can max out the cpu/gpu and play games all day and never freeezes. if it were the psu it would never be able to handle that type of load all day long.
