Is it possible to get a decent pre-built computer for an AutoCAD 3D user for around $800 (not including monitor)? What hardware has the greatest effect on AutoCAD performance? Is it the Processor, RAM, and Video Card?

Would building a computer with an $800 budget see a much greater increase in performance vs. a pre-built?

Yes if you deal hunt.

All three hardware have a great effect on AutoCAD performance. Though CPU edges out the other two a little.

Yes if you already have a legit and transferable OS license around and a bunch of other parts lying around that can be reused.

Thanks for the response Danny Bui. This computer is for someone else and he wouldn't have any old parts to use so everything would have to be bought. Something pre-built would be preferable, but if building a computer would be significantly better at the specific price range, then that will be the route taken most likely.

Considering that he needs everything, he's better off with a prebuilt.

Keep an eye on slickdeals.net and gotapex.com for Dell deskptop deals and such.
