My machine has been working flawlessly for about three years. On Wednesday, I was playing poker and watching a video, when is shut itself off and restarted (this has never happened before). It worked again for about 10 minutes, and restarted again. I then worked for about 10 more minutes, then shut off, and would not restart. I used my son's computer and put in the POST Codes my motherboard was giving me, and found out that re-seating the memory might solve the problem. It did until Sunday morning when the PC would not turn on at all. Everything was getting power (lights, fans), but the POST Code block was not lit. I figured it might be a dead CMOS battery, so I bought another. After installing it my computer sprung back to life.
My question is: Can a dying CMOS battery cause these problems? Or am I destined to have more problems until I find the real culprit?
Overheating is not an issue. Arctic Cooling on both CPU and Video Card.
My System:
EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR X58 SLI
Intel i7 920 (not overclocked)
12 GB PC3 (not overclocked)
Radeon 7800 (not overclocked)
3 SATA Hard Drives (no RAID)
DVD Drives, keyboard, mouse, internal sound...
