Does anyone know of any computer cases designed so that the motherboard faces to the right of the case (looking at the front of the case) instead of the left?
 
I've seen some Silverstone and ThermalTake cases like this. Are there any other case requirements?
 
Mainly mulling over a new build at the moment, so was partly exploring my options and curiosity, other thing I thought about was trying a SFF this time.

But I'd say -

- Around 50cm (H) x 21 cm (W) x 46cm (D) or less size wise (height can maybe be more)
- uses standard 120mm fans
- some dust filter system
- either adjustable or very low noise fans, or comes with no fans (buy my own)
- planned build at the moment is a i5 2500k with a HD 6950, no plans to crossfire/sli or water cool.
- needs to fit longer length video cards ~10.5-11 inches
- at least 2 3.5 inch drive bays, facing sideways,
- don't use any 5.25inch drives at the moment, maybe a blu-ray in the future if needed
- prefer removable motherboard tray
- kind of bored of black designs
- prefer non glossy designs
- at least 1 front usb port
- window might be fun this time around, not really needed though
 
Is BTX the only option? Wondering about the implications due the wider selection of ATX parts, and possible future upgrades/resale.
 
BTX form factor is pretty much deprecated. The cases I was thinking of allow ATX or smaller variants. One expensive example would be the Silverstone RV02.

Edit: Most cases aligned the way you are imagining simply have the mobo turned upside down, so the ports point out the back. Consider PM'ing a mod to move this thread to the "Cases & Case Modding" forum to get more suggestions.

What you're looking for are called reverse ATX cases where the ATX motherboard is mounted upside down and therefore making the motherboard face the left of the case. A good example of this are Lian Li's A05 cases:

Alternatively, you can go with Silverstone's 90 degree orientation cases:
$180 - Silverstone RV02-BW ATX case
$250 - Silverstone FT02B ATX case

Thanks for the suggestions and the move, I was sure there was a section for forum cases, but for some reason I kept not seeing it when I wanted to make this post.
 
Lian Li V1000B. You can still find em for sale online at various places.
 
So I looked at the suggestions, and the Silverstone's just wow. I could find RV02s for ~$160 locally (not too expensive for a case), and that design really seems to make sense thermally as well. The 180mm fan version was of interest to me, since it seems it is possible to buy replacements. Sadly both the RV and FT are too long, since I need to be able to perch it on a "shelf" that is 50cm in length with a back wall (can stick out a bit from the front, not the back).

That Lian li V1000B is hard to find here, I found a place without stock listing it at ~$260, while not really out of what my budget would be, is quite a bit for a case. I also have some concerns about how it would handle thermals for a video card, since it seems it would have to intake hot air downwards (with current gpu cooling solutions). I'm also somewhat puzzled about why Lian Li still uses 80mm fans (this is something that I've noticed for years now).

Might need need to go with a micro-ATX SFF build just for a change of things then it seems. Will see how things turn out, not desperately in a rush for a new build.
 
Like Danny mentioned, the lian li A05 fits most of your requirements and it is an awesome case. There is a very long thread on it here. I have used it in a few builds and its a great case to work with. Air flows mostly from back to front so filtering the air is a bit problematic.
 
The Lian Li's I can find are quite expensive at roughly ~$225 and upwards. I'm not sure if I can justify that much on a case though for a 2500k and single 6950 type setup, it seems the extra money could go towards something else more functional. Also at that price the langear da box seems more appealing and comes in cheaper.

One thing to keep in mind with the extra length is that because the ports are all on the top, you don't need as much clearance behind the case. PSU intake is there, but you could probably put it within an inch of the wall, versus the normal 4"+ you need for the big connectors and stuff out of the back.

Ignore the "BTX" suggestion, that person has his facts wrong. BTX is an alternate format to ATX that's sorta a 'mirror image'. If you were to put the mobo against the right side of the case, an ATX would have the CPU above the PCI slots, and a BTX would have the CPU below the PCI slots. They're two fundamentally different and incompatible form factors. BTX was a hot new thing that was expected to take off, but it died, and good riddance. You want something that takes a regular ATX mobo, but orients it "upside down" with the CPU below the PCI slots. As others have said, the majority of those cases are Silverstone or Lian Li.
