Ive built before, but I want peoples opinions this time, since Im going to be spending so much money on it. Some of the stuff isnt out yet, but I will be waiting until they are out. (eVGA 512 6800 and MX518{if i get it})

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD FX-55
4gig Corsair XMS PC3200 DDR
6x74 gig WD SATA Raptors
Turbo-Cool 850 SLI
2xeVGA 512 GeForce 6800 Ultra
Creative labs Audigy 2 ZS Platinum(maybe pro.. depends on the case i get)
Creative Gigaworks S750 7.1
2xZalman Resivators (one for CPU+Ram one for GPUs)
(Update-The components)
Sony 52x CD-ROM
Sony 16x DVD-ROM
Plextor DVD-+RW SATA
Plextor CD-RW (SATA if i can find one)
Z-board or DiNuvo (Bluetooth)
MX518 or Razor Diamondback
Nostromo n52 Speedpad
x52 Flight control system

Planning on getting silencers for HDD/PS and a couple Silent case fans, since I am not using LC on the HDDs or Optical drives (Not feasible)

Not sure about monitors, thinking about LG 19" with 8ms rt, maybe 2.. not sure if i should do two or not. Suggestions are accepted, but I want opinions backed up by facts.

And any suggestions on Tempature measurment software for CPU/RAM/GPU would be nice, as well as overclocking software suggestions.
I will be overclocking this system, and i want to see how far i can push one, which is why i have the two liquid cooling resivators. Any suggestions on changes to the setup, let me know

wow, is that system really necessary? 4gb of ram seems like total overkill for a gaming rig of any sort, and why the heck do you need 6 raptors, why not just get 2 and raid them for the os and programs, then get 2 400gb 7200 rpm drives for storage?

Wow. That is an incredible build. I don't think I have ever seen a plan to waste so much money on a PC since someone told me they were buying a top of the line Alienware system. For the money you are goin to spend on this setup (assuming you are paying for it of course) you could build 3 or 4 systems that would be about 98% as good!

4GB of RAM? Do you have an actual use for this?

Raptor drives? Why? 99% of the time they are less than 2% faster than regular drives, and they cost 3 times as much. Unless you are constantly running one of the very few programs that sees a significant benefit from them they are a complete waste of money.

2x512mb 6800u videocards? You're going to be paying about $450 extra for basically nothing. There are only about 2 games out that show any actual benefit from the extra RAM. By the time there are a significant number of games that can use the RAM those cards will be getting a tad long in the tooth and you will have bought newer ones anyway.

WTF do you need 4 optical drives for?

Whats the point of a Nostromo AND a Zpad? Get one or the other.

And finally, I can't believe your going to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on all this and then get a 19" monitor.

All I can assume is that someone else is footing the bill for this and have told you money is no object, because if it's your own money they a lot of it's getting wasted....

If anyone believes this line of rubbish, especially from a first post, then I have some swampland in Florida to sell you. I'll even build you a bridge.

Does anyone here have ANY idea what this system costs? The average kid on a message board can only dream of looking at the pictures, never mind buying that kind of system... When they are overkilling everything to a severe extreme and willing to wait for hardware that doesn't even exist on the open market yet that should send up red flags.

In other words? Don't bite.

when i use to work for a computer store near my house we use to build ppl pc's and we got a lot of rich young kids who didnt know anything about computers and asked for ridculous stuff like this all to play a few games online lol

good for us bad for there parents who spend like 3 grand :-(

and if your overclocking go with the DFI SLI board much better board

dam 2 zalman reseviors lol

maybe something alittle more sensiable like this

DFI LP NF4 SLI-DR
A64 3500+
2x512 GSkill PC4400 LE
OCZ 600watt PSU
2x eVGA 6800Ultra
1x 74GB WD for OS
1x 250GB WD for Storage
SB Audigy ZS
NEC Dvd Burner ND-3520A BK
1 zalam resvoiror
1 floppy drive
Operating system

i hope i didnt forget anything

and all those other keyboards you want well still kinda expensive but way less they what you wanted

oh yeah i forgot the case just get any case you want with out a psu of course maybe a nice black lian li case for like 120 bucks dont go nuts !

that plus what ever watercooling you want plus a case and a few other components you have listed

rofl i think this thread is going to turn into what i can build with a rediculous amount of money thread :-P

I asked for suggestions on switches, not for ridiculing statements about what might, or might not be true. Yes, this system is going to cost upwards of 6k, I know that, and I AM PAYING IT. I want the best I can get, and I want to see how far I can push the hardware, like I said. I want to see just how far I can push an FX-55, and the 6800s. I want to see what the maximum FPSs i can get on DOOM 3 at maximum settings, all the while keeping the system temp below the maximum stable operating tempature. I want suggestions and advice. Anyone who can tell me anything useful will be appreciated, anyone else, will be ignored.

As for the question as why a z-board and a n52, Im not planning on both. Im only getting the n52 if i get the DiNuvo set.

Oh, and i want the A8N for its 8 SATA ports, like was said above.

I mean if thats what you want, thats what you want. I think a lot people on here see it as you can do a lot without a lot. You don't need to spend 6K on a computer to see higher framerates(unless thats your thing) You can pretty much build a top of the line system for a good bit less that that. As far as the ram, I remember seeing benchmarks where less ram actually game higher benchmarks than a lot of ram. 4GB or ram seems like over kill to me. I have one gb of ram in my server at work that host my company webpage, 20 employee's on exchange etc. 4GB is what a webpage hosting company uses, or a game server rental company uses for multiple servers. My thoughts are save you money for the next update you want to do which will be soon the way tech is changing day in, day out. Bottom line its your cash, anyone will help you spend it, but no one wants to see it go to waste. Good luck!

I can't possibly recommend such hardware as it isn't a good bang for your buck. Here's a nice high-end system that won't rape your wallet unnecessarily. Used the saved money to buy yourself a nice huge ViewSonic or MAG CRT or a speaker system. :)

- Motherboard: DFI NF4 Ultra-D SLI
... the ultimate A64 overclocker's board.

- CPU: Athlon 64 3800+
... will run every game and task great. If you REALLY demand an unlocked multiplier, get an FX-53, not an FX-55, and save some cash.

- RAM: 2 512 MB Sticks of Kingston ValueRAM (DDR400/PC3200)
The proper, logical RAM without timings that won't make a difference or flashing lights will save you a LOT of cash.

- Video: 2 x Leadtek 6800GTs on PCI-Express
Fast, efficient cards and often very nice overclockers. Their coolers are also amazing, no need to buy waterblocks for them. They can hit their full potential on air.

- HDD: 2 or 3 Seagate 7200 RPM 8MB Cache 160 GB SATA Disks
... 90% as fast as Raptors, yet you'll have 3 times as much storage, and still pay less.

- Optical: 1 or 2 NEC 3250A DVD+/- Double Layer Burners
... EXTREMELY reliable, queit and fast drives. Avoid Sony optics, period. SATA has no performance benefit on optical drives. The mechanics are the bottleneck, not the bus.

- Power Supply: Enermax Noisetaker 420 or Enermax True480/NeoPower480
... Anything beefier would be total overkill. I recommend these to give you headroom for future upgrades and for the attachment of water pumps if you go that route. ;)

... this machine will run every game perfectly on extreme settings BEFORE overclocking, but will also overclock quite nicely. Enjoy it and enjoy your still-occupied wallet. ;)

i didnt ask for a different system, i asked for possible better parts. (The core components im not changing [motherboard, cpu, hdds, and type of ram, amount of ram i might. I also wont be changing the GPUs.]

Im going to be buying a high end 8ms response time LCD at 19" or higher, ontop of all of this. Speakers will be the Creative labs Gigaworks 7.1 system, unless someone can tell me what a better system is (Sound quality, not price.) I dont care about price, i have enough money to buy 20 of these systems if i wanted to.

Members aren't trying to attack you, just steer you in the direction that makes sense! Chill out buddy! you have enough money to buy 20 of these? please pm me your SS#, account#, and pin# :) I want to see what this rig can do!

LOL, sorry bro, not into giving that information out. And if you want it, work for enough money to buy it yourself.

BTW, if anyone can show me something that shows that more ram will produce slower framerates, i would love to see it.

I never said it was for higher performance, I said it was to save you THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS on hardware that WON'T DO YOU ANY GOOD RIGHT NOW. If your framerates are past 100 FPS you won't be able to percieve a difference, the human eye can't SEE that many frames, and you can use such high quality settings on the parts I recommended the visuals will be astonishing.

SAVE the money from the FX-55 and upgeade to a Dual-Core A64 later this year! Or double the RAM and pick Valie, non-Low Latency rip off RAM if you must have more (though it is unnecessary).

No need to give rude responses to people trying to help, but if you want to rip yourself off, your funeral.

I appoligize if i appeared rude. I'll still be upgrading when those parts come out, but I want to see how far these parts will go. Im mostly looking for Cooling recomendations. And I do appreciate your attempt to save me money, however unnessesary.(and i was not being rude with that last comment)

I don't need your money it was a joke. Trust me, myself and I think everyone on this forum works hard for there money thats why it troubles them to see you waste it. heres a quick think to something about more ram not being better. No its not PC3200 test but its what I could find.
http://www.computermemoryupgrade.net/how-much-do-i-need.html
http://www.canadiancontent.net/tech/computing/too-much-ram/

I cant find the exact place I found it, but I will keep looking.
Cooling? Why not do watercooled? Even if you dont oc misewell know that you can in the future.

If you really want to spend 6k...

spend 3k on a computer and 3k on a nice display/displays...

;)

The four optics are so i can burn CDs and DVDs, at the same time if i feel like it, and so i can quickly switch between games without getting the CD's. Im a lazy bum, most of the time.

I was planning on watercooling, but i was wondering if there is anything else that i can use, coupled with it, to help lower pressure. Im going to be using silent case fans as well, but is there anything else that will allow me to overclock higher than just straight water cooling?

As for the 3k on computer, and 3k on monitors, i was planning on spending 3k to get the best monitor i can find. Not sure what monitor i should get though, i dont really want anything under 20 inches, and i would Like an LCD, but if the performance of a CRT is significantly greater, ill get it instead.

refridgerant cooling. ther are breakout units for other cases, as well as cases with it built in. google [font=Arial,Helvetica]" Prometeia" for what i hear is a decent refrigerant/evaporator cooler.

Sony 52x CD-ROM
Sony 16x DVD-ROM
Plextor DVD-+RW SATA
Plextor CD-RW (SATA if i can find one)

The cdrom is useless as all of the other devices will read CDs.
The DVD is only useful if doing direct DVD/CD to DVD/CD copying.
The CDRW is useless as the DVDRW can read and write CDs.
SATA offers not advantages as the bus isn't the limitation.
You can use a program like Alcohol 120% to create "virtual drives" so you don't need to play the disk swap game.

The bottom line is anything over 2 drives is useless in 98% of home user enviroments.

Thanks for the info, though i still do like having the majority of my drive bays filled up.. and i have 5 in the Lian-Li tower i am considering getting.

As for the VapoChill, having a hard time finding it.. any stores you know of?

If you know anything at all about computers, Raphael, which I'm not so sure about, (if anything I think you have more money than brains if you are even close to serious with your post) you would know that as you increase the RAM you decrease performance (the threshold is much higher with XP than it is with 9x). The principle behind this is a simple one. The computer has to manage all that RAM, which in a Dual Channel config runs in series. Running in series, every memory access has to run sequentially. For instance if you want to access bit 58, the first 57 bits have to be checked first and so on.

The memory controller is refreshing the RAM (made up of pairs of transistors and capacitors, each cap representing one bit of data) at the rate of thousands of times a second. The more RAM it has to manage, the harder it has to work and the longer it takes to refresh the banks. While it is recharging all those capacitors, it is also charging and discharging the capacitors with bits of data, amongst other things. So, overall the process becomes less efficient and you're basically shooting yourself in the foot, which is supposedly to have the best gaming system out there (yeah, and I'm Uncle Sam).

Soooo.. That's what makes Me think you're either just some kid with more money than brains or just pulling a "the biggest bulge for the most cake" thread. No offence. Whatever it is, I don't believe you researched this for a second. Rather, I think you got bored and surfed Newegg.com

I know enough about to computers to build them, and i know how the different parts interact, but, how the RAM actually works, not I did not. Thank you for telling me that, as it well help. I am trying to put together the best gaming system, so your information is very helpful. Any other information you have that might help me accoplish this, would be appreciated.

I'n my opinion its the worst gaming system you could buy...how useless and wasteful..I'm beggining to think this is a joke.. All you do is say "nah i think ill keep it all i dont care for money" when people suggest things so WHY THE F*CK DID YOU POST HERE?

EDIT: I'm really suprised you haved said you want the FX-57 yet..

Was that really necessary? He came looking for constructive criticism meant for swaying him away from his already firm choice. Its what most people do, find what they want, set it in there mind thats what they want, and then try and get people to sway them away from that, if they are swayed, then it means there is a big enough difference.

As for 4 Opticals, I suggest get 2x Really fast DVD+/-RW, as they can Burn CD's, Read CD's, Burn DVD's, Read DVD's etc. You can do it at the same time too.

I think It was very necessary after reading every single post in this thread.

I probably should have said that i was really looking for advice on cooling, not really hardware. And Im not sure when the 57 is coming out, the 512mb video cards by eVGA should be out this month, which is why I am willing to wait for them. Anyway, ive changed my ram to th? low-lat that WhiteWolf suggested, now I am curious as to just how much i should get. Should i get 2 512s or 4?

I've Selected the VapoChill LS to cool my CPU, now, should i bother with LC for the Videocards, ram, and HDDs, or should i just use the two 120mm fans that im putting in the Lian-li V2100 case?

To be honest all you have to do is wait about 5 months then go online and search for the most expensive equipment and components then you will be all set! :p

hmmm.. i don't know what to say..

i think you should go vapochill for sure.. the fx-57 should be out soon.. but who knows.. you definitely should be an early adopter of the venice core so you can tell us how well it overclocks..

get dual dvd-rw dirves.. get 4 if you want.. but no reason to get regular optical drives.. compared to everythign else you are getting the price difference will be negligible..

6x raptors i am not sure about.. you could get a nice raid card and some 15k scsi cards too.. that's always an option..

you could always build something now for $1000 very easily and wait for the dual-core, or fx57, or whatever you want.. but then again.. once those come out there will be another big thing on the horizon...

good luck though.. take pictures.. i would like to see how it turns out...

Hmm.. im going to check in on the FX-57 to see when it comes out. As well as the multicore. I am also wondering if it will run on socket 939, but i suppose i can check AMD's website for that information.

why the heck do you need so many optical drives a dual setup is the best 1 52xcd-rw/dvd-rom combo + 16x dual layer dvd-rw. Also dont get that asus board they are by far not the best out there go with the DFI lanparty nf4 sli. Also 4gigs of ram is a useless waste of money 1gig is fine (2x512mb) because with any more that fx-55 will use really crappy ram speeds (dd333) and that will kill your system performance.

What he said. 4 opticals is dumb, and a waste of money and space. Use Alcohol 120%, or use Virtual Daemon and mount images on the virtual drives. Or, if you don't want to do that, Google the game in question and type "No CD key" or "fixed EXE" after it, and you will never need the CD again.

or just use a dual setup like i said before that way you can just use nero and copy cd to cd
