CompUsa Midnight Madness

That notebook looked ok... till I saw the AOL part...

yeah that and the $325 mail in compusa rebate.. i hate MIR's as it is because its a crap shoot if you'll ever get your check but to put that much cash on the line, just not worth it

The wireless cards for $30 with no rebates isn't bad if you really hate rebates. The x-fi xtreme music for $100 is ok as well, but nothing too hot.

Why does everyone hate Rebates? nowadays you do get em back, this isnt the 1990's anymore...

but compusa is crap sorry, and so is aol.

what psu is that, it looks like the neo power, but a search through the sku showed that it's an FMI psu...anyone used this power supply b4??

Don't worry he knows now, he said he looked up the SKU and found it to be another company.

1yr warranty = crap. COMPUSA = Crap. AOL = big crap

Mail in rebates = AWESOME

My mom used to do rebates for fun, and she has never been skimped out of a check.

I just got 2 rebates back. And I have never gotten robbed of a rebate. YOU GET THEM BACK!

Yeah you get them back in 6 to 8 months. AFter the extra money you paid generates enough interest to cover the rebate amount.

wait, whats the AOL thing with the laptop?

I think it's something like... Sign up for 12 months AOL and you get an extra rebate.

Pretty much right. They give you a $125 store credit for signing up for a year of AOL. Yea the ad doesn't seem to be anything special.

$99 x-fi ftw!

Also, the HD is only 200GB not SATA and only 8mb cache.....not worth it to me

Can you cancel the AOL after buying the computer.

i believe you can but the cancellation fee is like $180, I was reading about this on fatwallet the other day. i believe the deal was for a $250 gift card last year when signing up for AOL, does not seem worth it to me this year.

meh. Nothing really impressive at ALL.

I feel like the "golden heyday" of the 'net providing the killer deals for BIG holidays is over. Too many people know about it so stores skimp knowing they'll get the volume of sales anyways.

just my observations of the last two BF's and this midnight madness.

there are other [H]ot deals during the year, though. ;) :D

If you cancell the contract before it ends they will charge you the remaining months in one lump sum.

They have the Philips DVD player there.. I'd go for that if I didn't already have one. It looks like the DVP-642 at least... It plays almost any format I throw in there. PAL, NTSC, DivX, avi, mpg, mpeg, etc... its also region free when you update the firmware. ;) Best DVD player evarrrrrrrr.!!11!!11!

lol dont shoot the messenger, I honestly NEVER buy anything from compusa, the #1 reason is because of their horrible return policy.. I just saw the ad on techbargains.com figured id pass it along

Out of the last 13 rebates I have sent in the past year, I have received only 2 of them back. Rebates suck, they're a TOTAL scam.

Sounds like someone needs to learn to follow directions... ;)

Seriously though, you should follow up on the ones you have not recieved. What companies/stores owe you rebates?

yup
it's awesome... I've had mine for just over a year now and it works fairly flawlessly. I spent like 2 days on the net (off and on) searching reviews and looking over cheap (under $100) DVD players. And out of all the ones I looked over, I settled on this one. Guaranteed playing of most all media, DIVX, updateable firmware, and good outputs (not HD though). I highly encourage anyone looking for a solid DVD player to scoop this up!

Just sounds like you need some rebate practice to me. I have sent in over 30 rebates in the past year and received every single one of them back (In 4-8 weeks usually, not 6-8 months like someone said). Its all about making a spreadsheet keeping track of them all with every detail including copies of everything then using mailing that you can track to make sure it gets delivered etc etc..
Rebates aren't a scam; companies use rebates knowing full well that it increases sales by a pretty % and that even the worst case for them maybe they get 30% of those rebates actually sent in.

Cheers

some of the prices aren't bad, but that's only if your time isn't valuable to you. i went to compUSA on black friday after a thanksgiving party since they opened at midnight. by 12:05 i had the items i wanted, but i didn't even get to pay until almost 4:00  it sucked because with everything cheap only after rebates, people were buying 10 different things and needed 10 different receipts, and you had a lot of people who had never dealt with rebates before and couldn't read the fine print asking every cashier why their item rang up to be 150 when the ad said 100.

i can't imagine the lines being as long as black friday, but with it being only 2 days before christmas, who knows?

Doh!! I just bought a Sanyo dvd player from wal-mart 2 nights ago... hmm... maybe return this and get the Philips tonight... :D I think I might bite on the 1GB flash drive not too bad of a deal, and the X-Fi looks sweet too... is the Platnium and the Fata1ty versions the only ones with the on-board 64M ram?
