hey there [h]

ive been building pcs for myself and others as a hobby for some years now. ive done a fair bit of self-diagnosis and troubleshooting over that time but after a recent relocation of my desktop, im encountering a problem that i just do not know where to start with.

the specs...
w7 pro
e8500 (not oc'd)
gtx260
8gb ddr2
raid0 640gb wd blacks

i recently moved and on first boot my displays were not getting any input so i resat the gfx card and it booted normally. while the pc was on, i went to swap the dvis to get my monitors in the right position; as i did this one of the dvis touched the back of the case causing a spark and the system rebooted. case is p180b cold steel in case that matters

now - i cannot get it to do much. every time i start her up it goes normally until it gets to the 'starting windows' swirly logo screen for about 2 seconds and just reboots. upon reboot it prompts for startup repair, which if i choose it just the loading bar 'windows is loading files' gets to 100% then locks up... 'start normally' gets me back to the starting windows screen then a hasty reboot

out of desperation i unraid'd my drives thinking that may be the issue but the same problems occur (important data is already backed up). so i pop in my windows 7 pro flash drive just thinking i would do a clean format and be gravy -- i boot normally from the usb drive and windows 'loading files' happens quickly and the next screen 'starting windows' (no swirling logo) appears and it will never make it past this point

this issue is now beyond my area of expertise and am hoping one of you gurus can shed some light on this. its my first week at a new university and i desperately need to get some work done.

my apologies for the wall of text... but i least i didnt make a thread including only, 'my windows wont boot, why?'

tldr - pc wont boot past loading windows screen nor allow me to reformat, what gives!

edit:
reset cmos with no result
disabled raid with no result

Reset CMOS, start with only 1 stick of RAM in. See what happens...Not %100 sure if it will do anything.

Agreed. Sounds more like youve fried some piece of hardware rather than a software issue. If you have any spare hardware handy, now would be a good time to try swapping things out til you find the culprit.

I'd remove the CMOS battery and completely reset it. Then I would test the RAM sticks one at a time and NOT run the hard drives in raid 0. To me it sounds like their might be a problem with the raid controller on the mobo.

i forgot to mention that ive already reset the cmos and have already disabled all raid features... puzzling

and unfortunately my leech friends soak up all my outdated hardware

This is why I'm anal about turning machines "off" if I'm swapping anything except USB & eSATA.

You've probably fried a component somewhere.

If I were you I'd get back to the basic troubleshooting steps and build your computer piece by piece outside the case.
